Since becoming a business owner myself and working with so many small business owners throughout Pittsburg, I've really taken an interest in learning why this community has such a cool entrepreneurial spirit.

What drives people to not only live here but also open businesses that aim to enhance the quality of life in Pitt?

In small towns, it's so easy to get discouraged or assume we can't have nice things. But Pittsburg just isn't that way. There are some incredible people here doing really neat work.

So I decided to take my camera around and talk to business owners about why they do what they do.

No joke, I've flirted with hiring someone to do the social media for my social media business.

And it's because of perspective. A fresh set of eyes. An outside opinion. Different views. These are all things you get with a freelance social media manager.

It's not just the content and posting ... it's the ideas. The chance to see your biz through another's lens. We see your business in a way that you don't, and that's totally cool! It should be that way.

Sometimes we can get too into the weeds on our own things and forget that we don't matter as much as the audience/customer does. Having an "outsider" manager your social helps maintain that balance.

Also, because we live in this social media world all the time, we see what's out there, what's working, and how we can apply it your business.

So the other day I was toying with shirt designs that expressed my affection for Pittsburg and small town life. This freelance biz has only succeeded because of the support from our community and the many business owners who have become tremendous partners and friends!

After going through a number of design options, this one made the most sense. lol

Businesses of all sizes often share the same experience ... social media gets whatever time and energy is left after a full day of everything else.

And let's be honest, that doesn't feel good.

That's why I launched this social media biz a few years ago ... to help give small and mid-size businesses the social media presence they deserve at a price they can afford.

Friend asked me this week what the elevator pitch would be for my freelance social media services. I half-joked, "Well, it doesn't cost very much."

Ok obvs there is more to it than that, but the low cost is a thing.

I help small and mid-size businesses grow their online presence through custom, strategic social media content ... and do it at a fraction of the cost of hiring a full-time employee.

A full-time social media manager could cost anywhere from $40,000 to $70,000 a year.

My freelance service starts at $6,000 per year.

This month marks 3 years since we launched our small business social media service, and it's been a wild ride from the jump!

Whether through social media management partnerships or project-based initiatives, we've been able to serve more than 30 businesses and organizations in Southeast Kansas!

The goal from the beginning was to help Pittsburg and the regional small business community share their stories and have a bit more fun online.

I cannot say THANK YOU in big enough caps to express how grateful I am to our local biz community for the support and partnerships and taking a chance on us.

This is a neat town.
