The Communiqué had an exciting showing at the Golden Quill Awards this year with five nominations and four awards, one for each category it was nominated in.

The 2025 ceremony, presented by the Press Club of Western Pennsylvania on May 28 at Rivers Casino Event Center on the North Shore, recognized news outlets from across Western Pennsylvania and parts of Ohio and West Virginia.

Special shoutout to Irina Bucur ‘21 who’s professional work was recognized as a part of a team of journalists with the Butler Eagle who collaborated with Spotlight PA and ProPublica to report on the assassination attempt of President Donald Trump and the investigation of the Secret Service that followed. Their collaborative investigation won this category.

Abigail Hakas ‘24 was also nominated in two professional categories for work published by the Pittsburgh Union Progress and the Next Generation Newsroom.

Congratulations to all!
