Paying full price?? In THIS economy??

I stand by my statement that you do NOT need new gear to start adventuring.

Outdoor gear can really add up quickly and gear prices often feel like a barrier to entry for outdoor activities.

I have acquired a lot of my gear thru the methods below and have saved so much money!

✅ use what you already have - seriously I bet you have gear you can hike in already in your closet
✅ borrow from friends - I will be forever in debt to my friends who lent me my first bits of backpacking gear (wren dave claire)
✅ shop consignment - other people’s trash is definitely my treasure
✅ shop sales - Labor Day, Memorial Day, Black Friday and the holidays are a GREAT time to get gear you know you want on sale and some of my favorite brands are having sales right now!

SAVE to make the most of your fall!

The weather is finally chilling out, Labor Day is around the corner, and it’s time to start thinking about what to do this fall!

There’s so much to do in Western Pennsylvania this fall! I probably haven’t even covered close to half of the awesome things to do around here.

Over the past year, I’ve visited all seven show caves and one natural cave in Pennsylvania. You might think that once you’ve seen one you’ve seen them all, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth.

Each cave is unique and its own history, formations, and quirks. They are ALL worth visiting. The personality types above are related to a fun fact about each cave!

When visiting the caves, follow all rules and directions from the guides. Dress warmly as the caves maintain a constant temperature around 50 degrees.

NOTE: Tytoona Cave can only be visited by obtaining a permit online (it’s free!) DO NOT under ANY circumstances visit the property without the proper permit. Also, I visited some of these caves as part of a hosted trip - thank you to those folks for their generosity and as always, my opinion is my own.

I had a funny Valentine’s Day post planned but nothing about what’s happening with our National Park Service, Forest Service, and public lands is funny.

Our administration is putting our national parks and public lands at risk by not properly staffing our national parks and forests heading into their busiest season and considering privatization of protected public lands.

If you love the outdoors and want to preserve these beautiful places for future generations, here are some actions to take:

🌳 follow organizations who are working to protect our public lands and donate or volunteer with them if you can
🌳 contact your elected officials and companies in the outdoor industry who can lobby against this
🌳 be an informed consumer and work to buy from ethical companies who don’t support this
🌳 stay informed with reliable news sources
🌳 if you have a platform, share resources and how to help
