With another school year beginning and social media, screen time, young users, online safety, and mental health once again making headlines, we're revisiting a conversation from the Fishing Without Bait archives that feels especially timely.

Jim Ellermeyer talks with University of Pittsburgh professor and former professional wrestler Chris Maverick about the similarities between wrestling personas and the identities we create online.

Social media may show us something real—but rarely the whole reality.

We see vacations, accomplishments, relationships, and perfect photographs. We don't see every argument, disappointment, insecurity, bad day, or ordinary moment behind them.

So why do we compare our entire lives with someone else's carefully selected moments?

Jim and Chris discuss storytelling, identity, escapism, comparison, social media, and how mindfulness can help us focus again on the life directly in front of us.
