Coming to the end of Journalism Awards season, Print's coverage has won three first place awards the Keystone Professional Media contest, for investigative reporting, headline writing (which includes one of my favorites "Legislature puts the breaks on E-scooters"), and Excellence in reporting on Diversity-Equity and Inclusion, and a second place for ongoing coverage.

In the Golden Quills we took home two top prizes for Education reporting and Public Affairs/Politics/Government Series.

In Allegheny County's headline race, if my math is correct, Sara Innamorato is a lock to become the first woman to serve as our county executive. Meanwhile Matt Dugan, who knocked District Attorney Stephen Zappala off the Democratic ticket, has lost to Zappala who turned around and ran as a Republican.
But the more remarkable aspect of this election is that 40.37% of the registered voters cast ballots in this most local of races. In the 2020 general election of Biden vs Trump, the turnout was 77%, but still, this was higher than the 33% of the last municipal election year. Go Allegheny County voters!

Since Facebook has birthday fundraisers, please join us in celebrating Print's upcoming 250th issue, and help support our work by going over to Eastendprint.com
and hit the button to support Print journalism.
Jan and I are working hard to keep community journalism alive, but we can't get by on subscriptions and advertising in this market.
Pick any amount, but do know the website will add a $2 credit card fee that we can't seem to get rid of.
Thank you for your love and support.

Frick Park is now open. You can check out the collapsed bridge from Forbes Avenue on the Squirrel Hill side. Tranquil Trail is closed as a through trail, but it is open up to 100 yards from the bridge.
