The ol’ Nut! 🥜 Hickory Nut Inn in East Hickory was long overdue for a visit! Classic dive bar. Not much is around there so it’s the perfect place to stop

My favorite thing here is a random late night stop in on a Saturday when 3-4 locals are sitting inside and no music is playing- it’s charming honestly. This is a true “if you know, you know” spot. Hopefully the locals aren’t sharpening their pitchforks from me showing this place, I can’t imagine many “city slickers” making this place their regular watering hole.

with their zero social media presence, committed regulars, sport aficionados, a vague lunch special sign when there seems to be no food in sight (they do sell chips for $1) and 3-4 old school slot machines- has won my heart. I found the people here to be very warm and friendly. I loved talking to the locals here.

The most modern and high tech thing about this place was the trusty TouchTunes machine in the back.

Even though this place is a smoking bar, I found it to be more ventilated than some of its counterparts. Next time you’re in the area, stop in and grab a bev at Lou’s

great bar in Brookline! 🍻Perfect outdoor seating, great food. Classic and standard bar- good bar menu, and everything is reasonably priced.

They have TouchTunes, some board games you can play, and a dart board that is a mystery to me🤣

We had a wonderful bartender, thank you!! 🍻

Great neighborhood dive in Bloomfield/Upper Lawrenceville- classic. Smokes are allowed and encouraged inside. The frostiest tall boys. I love the bars that give you a chilled glass.

A lot of people in my pool league play here when it’s not our league night- they practice here, Dee’s in Southside, Gooski’s, etc. I practice at Murphy’s Taproom a lot. I’ve seen some really great players here and I’ve also seen people improve a lot by playing here.

It’s cash only (I forgot to mention that) ATM right inside of course. They don’t serve food aside from chips. I’ve ordered food to here a few times and they don’t have any problems with that

Great burgers, giant, and super juicy! I like mine cooked medium so I appreciate that they have a list of ways they can prepare your burger- even if you want yours well done (I personally think think this is a crime)

The potato salad was fine but burgers without fries is wild to me??? Have they thought about it? Has someone let them know? What is the lore behind the no fries? No fryers? The onion potatoes my mom got were mediocre.

Overall, go for the burger and skip the sides. Bar area is also nice, so maybe a burger and a beer as your side?

Phenomenal meal at 🏮🍸🍣

Today they are having their big 10 year anniversary party - which is an incredible feat. Last night we stopped in for dinner and everything was fantastic. It’s no wonder they’ve stuck around

I had the Chirashi bowl and it was stunning. So fresh, beautiful, I loved the flower 🌺 they do such a wonderful job with presentation. The fish was all so fresh, melted in your mouth like butter. Loved the octopus also.

The otoro (bluefin fatty belly) was the the perfect bite, with caviar and uni on top. The handroll was the medium fatty belly- chutoro, and it was great too.

We also had a couple grilled items to start- the shrimp and the wagyu beef (not pictured) but these were both incredible. The wagyu had the perfect chargrill flavor while being super succulent & tender.

The big star of the night was the special of the night which was the salmon collar “Sake Kama” which includes the salmon cheek, and the area behind the gills. This part of the fish is super tender and fatty. A true treat. The fish was beautiful prepared and dressed with a spicy chimichurri with some accompaniments

Chef Sam & his team do an incredible job. This was truly one of the best meals I’ve had in Pittsburgh and I can’t wait to keep coming back to this gem. You can tell they truly care about their craft and have a passion for great food and exceptionally fresh ingredients

I wasn’t going to make these types of lists but after hearing so many businesses- owners, bartenders, servers, etc. Here are some spots to show love this weekend. I know the media has scared a lot of people into staying home but our restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and stores are pretty vacant. If you don’t want to drive- walk to something local if you are able to. Even if it’s just a cup of coffee or walking to your local bar for a beer 🍻🖤💛
