β’Light Asylum is the internationally celebrated dark, electronic project of founder, vocalist, producer, and multi-disciplinary performance artist, Shannon Funchess. Discovering an affinity for singing at an early age in a southern baptist church, she developed a powerful contralto through junior and high school choir, vocal ensembles, post-punk and indie bands adding Cocteau Twins, Joy Division, Grace Jones, Nina Simone, Nina Hagen, Depeche Mode, and Diamanda Galas to a list of influences. Formed in Brooklyn, New York in 2007, Funchess lent her talents on artistsβ such as TV On The Radio and !!! studio recordings. She would later go on to collaborate on stages and co-productions with LCD Soundsystem, ADULT., and The Knife
