We’ve been without power since Tuesday. Our home is still surrounded by downed trees and powerlines; one neighbor’s massive tree is still crushing the back of their house. We are grateful we are ok!
We’re just one of many across Pennsylvania hit hard by this storm system - 90 mph winds tore through the region.
Our home can’t even receive parcels right now, so all the emergency gear I optimistically ordered (lanterns, power banks, etc.) is stuck in limbo. Thankfully, friends have lent us supplies, so we’re getting by — but we’re using anything powered very sparingly.
Even if the grid here comes back online by the 6th, our house might stay dark longer because our underground electrical line was damaged and needs major repair. It’s a lot, yinz.
We weren’t ready for this, but maybe you can be. Think ahead about what you might need if faced with an extended power outage. Everyone’s needs and resources are different, but here are some ideas:
emergency candles (they last longer), lanterns, power banks, flashlights, batteries, grill, camp stove, instant coffee, battery radio — consider solar items. A generator is now on my wish list.
Shout-out to all yinz toughing it out!
