Contact Marilyn Mulvihill 412.427.2715 [email protected] Team 26, a group of 26 professional and top amateur cyclists, will ride from Newtown, CT to Pittsburgh, arriving May 2. Team 26 seeks to raise awareness of the gun violence epidemic, to support common sense legislation to reduce gun violence. This ride is in honor of the victims of the Tree of Life shooting. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE-APRIL 17, 2019 During the spring of 2013, Monte Frank, a Newtown resident and father of Sandy Hook Elementary students, responded to the tragedy of Newtown by creating Team 26. This group has for the past seven years cycled from Newton, CT through various cities to take their message of peace, hope, love to lawmakers and the public. This year they will come through Pittsburgh to honor the victims of the Tree of Life massacre. They depart Newtown on April 26 and arrive in Pittsburgh on May 2. Join Team 26, Moms Demand Action, CeaseFirePA, Squirrel Hill Stands Against Gun Violence, legislators, faith leaders, and the Pittsburgh Community as we inspire others to join the movement to end gun violence. A Welcome Reception will be held at Sixth Presbyterian Church on Thursday May 2nd. Expected Team 26 arrival is 3pm. “I ride to raise awareness of gun violence and to advocate for greater firearm regulation. The system is broken. ‘Thoughts and prayers’ will not do anything to fix it.” Alex Laifer, participating cyclist. About Moms Demand Action Much like Mothers Against Drunk Driving was created to change laws regarding drunk driving, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America was created to build support for common sense gun reforms. The nonpartisan, grassroots movement of American mothers and others is demanding new and stronger solutions to the lax gun laws and loopholes that jeopardize the safety of our children and families. Since its inception after the Sandy Hook mass shooting, MDA has established a chapter in every state and is part of Everytown for Gun Safety along with Mayors Against Illegal Guns. Everytown is the largest gun violence prevention organization in the country with supports, including moms, mayors, survivors and everyday Americans who are fighting for reforms that respect the Second Amendment and protect people.
