Going into Stick Season, we had to make a few schedule changes to adjust for the retirement of a few shows. Stay tuned, because more changes are coming with 10 new local folks getting trained next month to join us on the air in January.

Did you know you can donate your used vehicle to Central Vermont Community Radio?

We are part of a national car donation program with other public and community radio stations that give us a percentage of the value/resell of any car (in any condition).

πŸš— Doesn’t run anymore? Fine! As long as it has an engine and is towable, you can donate the car.

πŸš— If your car is newer and worth more, it could bring you a significant tax deduction.

Donating your vehicle – cars, trucks, motorcycles, tractors, boats, airplanes and more are eligible – can save you the hassle of trying to sell it while providing financial support for community radio!

CVCR gets 70% of the sale of the car after the cost of towing and other fees are assessed. We work with CARS, a fellow non-profit, that helps turn these cars into meaningful donations to nonprofits across the country.

BIG NEWS!
In 2026 we will replace our 30-year-old WGDR antenna and move it to a new, higher location in Plainfield.

This is a once in a station lifetime moment, where we will go from just 88 square miles reached by our radio signal, to over 700 square miles. Yes, this means we will finally get into downtown Montpelier and Barre, and many, many towns much further all around - north, south, east, and west (until of course the Green Mountains try to stop us). The graphic with this post shows you the current (blue) WGDR broadcast reach. The new location will be the yellow. Yes, it really is a game changer!

This project will cost us around $150K to fund over the next three years. This includes the cost of the new antenna (which the state legislative grant funding this year will cover). It also includes the costs of installation and upfit at the new tower, the new operational costs for the first three years (giving us time to adjust our budget to take on these new costs), and the staff time to pull it all off.

To do this we've launched the WGDR New Tower Fun. We are pleased to tell you that we have already raised $91K toward this $150K goal thanks to the very, very generous support of a few major donors and that state funding.

As we enter the end of the year, we are continuing to look for significant, one time gifts to help us fund the rest of this new Tower Fund. If you have the means want to make a huge impact on the future of the station, we hope you will consider us in your year end giving. Gifts can always be made at WGDR.org or by check made out to CVCR and sent to 123 Pitkin Road, Plainfield, VT, 05667.

Programming Changes Coming in November

By the end of October, we will have two long running shows retire:

πŸ“» Jeff Lindholm, host of Geezer Rock for the last 17 years on your Friday afternoons, is hanging up his headphones. Jeff has been on radio (college or community) for nearly 45 years! We are so lucky to have had Jeff's fantastic music show all these years. Jeff also manages our community events calendar, but he'll be sticking around as a volunteer for that. A big thank you to you, Jeff!

πŸ“» Letters & Politics, a long running syndicated show from KPFA hosted by Mitch Jeserich retired this month. Mitch took us behind the headlines of the day, nationally and globally. Mitch is continuing with a substack (email) if you want to subscribe that spans a wide range of content.

New programming starting by November:
πŸ“» The Monday Drive at 2pm with Corey is going to be moving to Fridays, 5-7pm, in place of Geezer Rock.

πŸ“» Thursdays at 5pm new line up: Mondays, Project Censored, Tuesdays, Rumblestrip, Wednesdays, Techtonic, and Thursdays, Big Picture Science.

πŸ“» We're also adding a few new overnight syndicated music shows.

Check our schedule for the latest line up.

WGDH Repair Completed!

Our patient listeners on 91.7 FM, WGDH, Hardwick, have been experiencing more drop outs over the last couple of months. This was due to a critical and custom repair needed for our key PC that runs the audio feed. We got it reinstalled this week and the reliability of that station should return to improved levels we held the last couple of years. We continue to be at the mercy of build storms with power and internet outages (like our community up there), so thank you for bearing with our rural radio location.
