Highly capable, endlessly overlooked. The ceiling was never yours.

Real estate has no ceiling. That's not a motivational line, it's the actual structure of the business.

A lot of women come out of corporate feeling like they hit a glass one. Not in every company, but often enough that it's still a very real conversation.

These are highly capable women. They work hard, they produce results, and they still get overlooked for leadership, underpaid next to their male peers, or limited by systems they don't fully control.

What makes real estate different is simple. Your growth is tied to your effort, your leadership, your consistency, and your relationships. There's no committee deciding whether you're ready.

I've watched women leave corporate and become top producing agents, team leaders, and brokerage owners. That transformation is one of my favorite things to watch.

If nothing were capping your growth but your own effort, what would you build first?

This isn't a backup plan. It's a business.

I give this framework to anyone seriously considering leaving corporate for real estate. Five honest questions, not emotional ones.

Why are you making this move? Are you running toward something, or escaping discomfort?

Can you handle financial and emotional uncertainty for a while? What's your actual runway?

Are you willing to build relationships consistently before results show up?

Can you manage yourself without someone else creating the structure for you?

Are you willing to become a beginner again, long enough to build something real?

If the answer to all five is genuinely yes, this business can change your life.

But it only works if you treat it like a business from day one. Not a backup plan. Not a temporary escape. Not a hobby.

Which of these five questions would be hardest for you to answer honestly right now?

She had momentum building. She quit anyway.

I think about this agent often.

She came out of corporate after a layoff. Smart. Professional. A great communicator. Everyone around her thought she'd do incredibly well.

She got licensed. Announced her career change publicly. Started attending networking events. Ordered business cards. For a while, things looked genuinely promising.

But underneath it, she never fully shifted from trying real estate to building a business. She hadn't created enough financial runway. Without corporate structure, her consistency became inconsistent.

Here's what makes this one hard. She actually had momentum. People were noticing her. Conversations were happening. Opportunities were starting to build.

But because the results weren't immediate, and the financial and emotional pressure kept growing, she panicked and went back to corporate.

I believe she quit about six months before it would have started working.

What's the earliest you've ever quit on something that was actually starting to work?

Most brokers talk about support.

Let me describe what it actually looks like.

It looks like a five-step framework for the exact moment a deal starts shaking.

1.Slow down the emotion.
2. Put the facts in place. WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, WHY.
3. Go back to the contract. Read it. Again.
4. Build two or three options before you ever mention termination.
5. Bring leadership in early. When it’s still early.

And it looks like the belief behind it: hard deals are not a sign you’re failing. They’re a sign you’re in the arena.

The agents who build real careers in this business don’t find a brokerage that eliminates hard deals. They find one where the hard deals don’t have to be navigated alone.

That is a different level of support.

And most agents don’t know they’re missing it until they finally have it.

What’s the moment a broker actually showed up for you? Or the moment you needed one and no one did?

Freedom isn't the reward. Structure you build yourself is.

Nobody talks about this part of leaving corporate for real estate.

You don't just lose a paycheck. You lose the entire structure around your day. The meetings, the deadlines, the manager keeping you accountable.

I joke that my boss is impossible. Then I remember, I'm the boss.

In real estate, you become the marketing department, the sales department, the operations department, and the accountability department, all at once.

Some people thrive the moment that structure disappears. Others realize quickly they miss it more than they expected, because motivation alone doesn't carry a business. Discipline does.

I can pair a new agent with a mentor who provides some of that accountability. But ultimately, showing up consistently, even when no one is watching, is on you.

What part of external structure would you miss most if it disappeared tomorrow?

08/21/2026

Real estate doesn't come with a built-in paycheck.

I tell people considering this move: have six months of financial runway before you make the jump, if you can.

Not because the money takes six months to show up for everyone. Because you're not just changing jobs, you're starting a business, and businesses have startup costs.

Licensing fees. Education requirements. Marketing expenses.

And depending on your state, licensing itself can take months. Texas is one of the more demanding processes I've seen. You can be licensed for a while before you're even eligible to start working with clients.

The agents who plan for that runway make it through the slow months. The ones who don't feel the financial pressure long before their pipeline is ready to support them.

What's your number, if you were being honest about your runway?
