We are heartbroken to share the passing of Debbie Hopkins, a woman whose love for Parkville could be felt in everything she did.
Debbie wasn’t just a resident here; she was a true champion of this community. From her time as President of the Parkville Chamber of Commerce to the countless hours she spent supporting local causes and organizations, Debbie poured her heart into making Parkville a place that people are proud to call home.

Her kindness, dedication, and unwavering belief in the strength of community touched the lives of many. Parkville is better because of her passion, her leadership, and her servant heart.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Debbie’s wonderful life on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Meyers Northland Chapel in Parkville.

To allow our members to celebrate Debbie’s life, we will be postponing the Co****le Tournament to Tuesday, September 30.

Debbie will be remembered not only for her accomplishments but for the way she made people feel valued, supported, and loved. Her legacy will live on in the town she cherished so dearly and in the countless friends and neighbors who were lucky enough to know her. https://meyersfuneralchapel.com/debra-kay-hopkins-northland-resident-09-09-2025/

This just in from the Sheriff's Office:

On 09/03/2025 at approximately 1:45 pm, the Platte County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of MO45 Hwy and Baker Road to check the welfare on a report of a male party sitting in the northbound lane of MO 45 Hwy by a black sedan with its emergency flashers on. While deputies were enroute to the scene it was reported that the male party was attempting to flag down other drivers, stop vehicles, and possibly get into other people’s cars. There was also a report that a shot was fired prior to deputies arriving on scene.

Once on scene, deputies contacted the male party who was uninjured but was incoherent and appeared to be having a severe mental health crisis. The male party was detained and transported to an area hospital for evaluation and placement on a 96-hour involuntary mental health commitment. There was a spent shell casing, and an unfired round of ammunition recovered at the scene. MO 45 Hwy was shut down for approximately two hours while the incident was investigated.

The Platte County Sheriff’s Office is asking for anyone that was traveling on MO 45 Hwy near Jones Myer Road and the Village of Farley between the hours of 1:30 pm and 2:15 pm and observed any part of this reported incident, please contact our communications center via the non-emergency number (816-858-3521) and reference case number 01-25-02965 with any additional information or observations.
