Murder Suspect Captured in Adirondacks.

On September 26, 2025, at approximately 7:30 a.m., the New York State Police received tips about a suspicious individual walking on State Route 86, near Paul Smith's College. Franklin County Sheriff Deputies and State Troopers patrolled the area and found a man identified as Anthony Bechand. He was taken into custody and transported to SP Ray Brook for further questioning.

The New York State Police would like to thank the community and the media for their assistance in locating Bechand. This search was a collaborative effort involving many.

The U.S. Marshals Task Force, New York State Forest Rangers, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Saranac Lake Police Department, Lake Placid Police Department, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, Plattsburgh City Police Department, Ticonderoga Police Department, the Northern Regional Response Team, and Franklin County District Attorney’s Office assisted the New York State Police and the Cohoes Police Department in this ongoing investigation.

FATAL CRASH: The City of Plattsburgh Police Department wants help from the public regarding a motorcycle/pick-up truck Fatality downtown Friday evening. According to City Police, a preliminary investigation determined that a motorcycle was traveling west at an undetermined rate of speed when it struck the side of a pickup truck. Plattsburgh Police report the motorcycle operator later died. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident Frida around 8:30p is asked to contact the Plattsburgh Police Department at 518-563-3411

State Police Seeking Help From Public

On September 20, 2025, the New York State Police are being joined by the U.S. Marshals Task Force, Northern Regional Special Response Team, and other local agencies on the continued search for Anthony Bechand who is still presumed to be in Franklin County where his vehicle was located on Sunday September 14, 2025. Law Enforcement is seeking the public’s help with any information leading to Bechand’s whereabouts and are asking for individuals with camps, trail cameras, or security cameras in the area to contact the New York State Police at 518-897-2000 of any unusual or suspicious activity. Bechand is described as a white man, 5’11”. 180 pounds with hazel eyes and brown hair. His clothing description is unknown. He may be armed and dangerous so do not attempt to approach. The U.S. Marshals are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to determining Bechand’s location.

BREAKING - State Police say a Capital Region homicide suspect fled North and may be in the North Country in Franklin County.

A search is Underway. Friday morning (September 12, 2025) at about 8:45 a.m., State Police responded to a reported robbery and assault at a residence on State Route 22 in the town of Ausable. Troopers are searching for the suspect, who the victim described as a white male, about 5’6” tall, wearing camouflage clothing and a black mask. Reportedly, the suspect entered the home, struck the resident with a long gun, and then fled on foot. The State Police say they want to hear from anyone with information about this case 518-897-2000.
