🚧 What the New UDC Means for You 🚧

Pleasant Hill’s City Council has approved a brand-new Unified Development Code — the biggest update to our zoning and development rules in years.

Here’s how it will affect everyday life:
🏠 Clearer rules for home remodels & additions
🚶 Safer, walkable neighborhoods with sidewalks & trails
🏬 Stricter storefront standards downtown (goodbye vinyl siding!)
🏛️ More oversight for historic properties
🌳 Stronger connections between new development & park space

The code takes effect October 1, 2025.

🚨 Vote on Major Zoning Updates Tonight in Pleasant Hill 🚨

Tonight, the Pleasant Hill City Council will consider adopting the Unified Development Code (UDC) — a complete overhaul of our city’s zoning and subdivision regulations.

This update has been years in the making, with guidance from the 2040 Comprehensive Plan, public input, and months of review by the Planning & Zoning Commission. If approved, the UDC will replace old rules with modern standards that shape how our neighborhoods, businesses, and future growth fit together.

📍 When: Monday, September 8, 2025 – 6:00 PM
📍 Where: City Hall, 203 Paul Street

🎉🐾 Happy 5th Birthday, Henry! 🐾🎉

Today we’re celebrating our favorite four-legged columnist — Henry the Havanese! Many of you will remember Henry’s popular column “All About Henry” in the old Pleasant Hill Times. Well, he’s back — fluffier than ever — and writing again for PHMOmag!

To mark his special day, we’re sharing one of Henry’s very first pieces (back when he was just a pup learning the ropes of journalism ✍️🐶). He had a lot to say about grooming, playing with paper, and winning over everyone he met with tail wags and kisses.

📖 Here’s a throwback from All About Henry:

Hello everyone! I finally got myself groomed this past week. My friend, Maggie, brought me up to the PetCo grooming salon to fix the haircut my owner tried on me. Maggie says I look like a toothpick, but I think it looks good on me. I do miss my long fur! While I was there I got to meet so many new people and jump all over them. I got so many pats and kisses that day. My owners have finally learned how much I love playing with paper and have been giving me so much of it to tear up. Although tearing paper is fun, my owners may have a hard time starting fires this winter… I guess we’ll see how that goes! I’m really enjoying it here at the Whitlock house!

— Henry the Dog 🐕

And here’s Henry today, celebrating his 5th birthday in style 💕 (see pic 📸). He’s still just as sweet, clever, and full of personality as ever — and we’re so glad he’s back sharing his adventures with our readers.

Drop Henry a birthday wish below! 🎂

Our Story

All of the past publishers and current publisher and their staff have brought their best to the readers of the Pleasant Hill area and surrounding towns for over 130 years. The Pleasant Hill Post was founded in 1886 and changed its name to The Pleasant Hill Times in 1901. Nothing covers Pleasant Hill and the surrounding northeastern Cass County community better than the Pleasant Hill Times. The Times is a paid circulation weekly newspaper that reaches an incredible 75 percent or more share of the Pleasant Hill market every Wednesday morning; this gives an advertiser the best readership possible in the area. In it, Pleasant Hill readers find in-depth coverage of city and county government, school news, sports, features and columns, and the milestones of its readers such as births, deaths, engagements, and weddings. The Times is a member of the Missouri Press Association. Over the years, the Pleasant Hill Times has been consistently recognized as one of the best weekly newspapers in Missouri. In fact, the Times won first place for general excellence and was judged Missouri's best small-town newspaper in the Missouri Press Association's 2001 Better Newspaper Contest.
