SHANNON McMANUS ANNOUNCES RUN FOR RAPIDES PARISH SHERIFF, PLEDGES $400K OF SALARY TO LOCAL CAUSES

Shannon McManus announced on Sunday evening that he is running for Rapides Parish Sheriff. McManus laid out several campaign promises and focused on transparency, accountability, employees and community involvement.
Among the biggest: McManus pledged that, if elected, he will give $100,000 of his sheriff’s salary each year — $400,000 over a four-year term — to charitable, nonprofit and community causes throughout Rapides Parish.
He also challenged the other candidates for sheriff to make the same commitment.
“If every candidate accepts the challenge, then no matter who wins this election, Rapides Parish wins,” McManus said.
McManus, a retired law enforcement officer, says he has approximately 17 years of law-enforcement experience, including nearly 15 years with the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office and almost two years with Alexandria Police. Much of his career was spent as a School Resource Officer, including 10 years at Alexandria Senior High.
Other proposals announced by McManus include:
• Take-home vehicles for School Resource Officers
• Easily accessible complaint AND commendation options on the RPSO website
• Merit-based hiring and promotions
• Greater transparency regarding public spending and decision-making
• Increased investment in deputies, dispatchers, corrections officers and other RPSO employees
• “Together Tuesdays” to bring sheriff’s office leadership into communities throughout the parish
• Reviewing how taxpayer dollars and existing resources are used
“The Sheriff’s Office doesn’t belong to the Sheriff,” McManus said. “It belongs to the people of Rapides Parish.”
McManus said additional details about his proposals will be released throughout the campaign.
