It was the selfless acts of many emergency workers and civilians that more lives were not lost that day, Sheriff Mark Dobbs said Friday during an event marking the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
“They had to know this was not the safe place to be. The safe thing to do was to run away,” he said. “That’s not what EMS, fire and police do. They run toward the danger and we see those videos, countless videos, of victims and workers running from that scene as emergency services ran toward it.”
Butler County officials, first responders and residents gathered in Poplar Bluff to mark the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, honoring victims and urging unity and service.
