PAUL HURD, LEAD ATTORNEY FOR THE PLAINTIFFS IN CALLAIS V. NANCY LANDRY AT RONALD REAGAN NEWSMAKER LUNCHEON TUESDAY — Attorney Paul Hurd, the lead attorney for the plaintiffs in Callais v. Secretary of State Nancy Landry, will speak at the Ronald Reagan Newsmaker Luncheon at 12 noon Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at Café Américain, 7521 Jefferson Hwy. in Baton Rouge.

The Callais case is challenging the Congressional reapportionment plan advocated by Gov. Jeff Landry and passed by the Louisiana Legislature, which created a second black majority Congressional district in Louisiana. Critics have said the district was racially gerrymandered in violation of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

The Callais case will be heard by the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday. Hurd will be there representing the plaintiffs challenging the reapportionment plan.

Also speaking will be attorney Eddie Tarpley, the legal correspondent for Community Press, who will be covering the Callais case in Washington. Tarpley is a former District Attorney and candidate for Attorney General.

Both Hurd and Tarpley will be speaking live from Washington. If time permits, they will answer questions from the audience and the media.

The Ronald Reagan Newsmaker Luncheon is sponsored by the Republican Party of East Baton Rouge Parish and the Louisiana Republican Assembly.

The meeting is open to the public, and reservations are not necessary. Lunch is $25 payable to the restaurant at the door and is complimentary for members of the working media.
