Old Stagecoach Road near Marshall in East Texas goes back to the pre-Civil War days. The woods around it were once a hideout for robbers that would target the stagecoaches driving to and from Shreveport, Louisiana.

There’s many a ghost story connected to Old Stagecoach Road…possibly the most haunted road in Texas?

Aldridge Sawmill in the first slide was a really cool one for me recently. It’s an old abandoned sawmill deep in the Angelina National Forest. I’ll have a video out on it this coming week.

Lightnin’ Hopkins became one of the great Blues musicians of his time, but he & many others got their start playing for tips along Camp Street, a historic Black business district in Crockett, TX.

This is a historic black cemetery in Bandera, TX on land once owned by Hendrick Arnold, a free African-American that received this land as payment for fighting in the Texas Revolution. And like so much of history, his story is complicated.

Chipita Rodriguez of San Patricio, TX was charged with the murder of John Savage in 1863 and sentenced to death by hanging. Since then, she’s been the subject of numerous ghost stories, books, plays and even operas.

Then in 1985, the Texas Legistlature passed a resolution that absolved Chipita of the murder.

Davy Crockett left Tennessee for Texas on November 1st, 1835, and he camped here beside a natural spring at what is now Crockett, TX in January 1836.

Just two months later, Crockett died fighting at The Battle of the Alamo.
