**Major Lake Erie Seiche...Bottom Of Lake Erie Exposed?**
When the winds are strong and line up just right, the water in Lake Erie can push from Toledo toward Buffalo. This is called a standing wave or "seiche" for short. This has happened a few times this fall, but tomorrow will be much more significant. Winds on Lake Erie are expected to gust up to 60 mph and the wind is perfect to push that water east/northeast. Computer models show the water level dropping 4 feet near Toledo and going to 2 feet below low water datum. That would expose a lot of the shore and areas typically under water near the shore in the western basin. This is also a water level that is 20" below anything that we have had this season. Meanwhile, the high winds in the middle of the lake are expected to produce waves up to 13 feet high! The lowest water level is expected in the afternoon to early evening tomorrow.
