BODY OF MISSING BOATER RECOVERED
The Port Lavaca Wave has been notified by Texas Game Warden Capt. Chris Bird that the body of the missing boater has been recovered. The individual was located near Dagger Point on the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge shoreline by volunteer searchers under Hunter Hadley's Quest. Texas Game Wardens transported the body to a local boat ramp, where Calhoun County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Thomas Dio identified and pronounced the individual as deceased.
The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office has notified the next of kin. However, the identity of the boater has not yet been released, and a water fatality investigation will still be conducted by the Texas Game Wardens.

MISSING BOATER UPDATE

Texas Game Warden Capt. Chris Bird gave an update on a boater who went missing Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 22.
According to Bird, the missing individual is a 72-year-old white male from Shiner, Texas. While other details regarding his disappearance were not disclosed out of respect for the individual’s family, Bird stated that the Texas Game Wardens were notified of his disappearance at approximately 3 p.m.

“The boater was seen wade fishing near Buoy 7 in San Antonio Bay before his boat began to drift and he disappeared under the water,” Bird said. “First and foremost, we’re keeping the individual’s friends and family in mind.”

Bird stated that, later that day, members of the Texas Department of Public Safety Tactical Marine Unit also recovered the missing boater’s watercraft near the shoreline of the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. He also advised that volunteers wishing to help in the search coordinate with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) or local nonprofit organization Hunter Hadley’s Quest (HHQ) for direction.

“We want to warn volunteers not to self-deploy and instead contact CCSO or HHQ to see where they can help instead,” Bird said.
Volunteers wishing to help can contact HHQ at 361-788-3884 or contact CCSO at 361-553-4646.

MISSING BOATER REPORTED

According to an Instagram post by the Texas Game Wardens, it and the U.S. Coast Guard, the Texas Department of Public Safety, Calhoun County Sheriff's Office and other local emergency response agencies are working together to locate a missing man in San Antonio Bay.

The game wardens ask that citizens restrain from self-deploying to assist in the search due to safety concerns posed by weather and water conditions, the post stated. They also ask the public to help both searchers and the victim's family by not sharing unverified information on social media.

"We will continue searching and provide updates as available. Our thoughts are with the gentleman’s family during this difficult time," the post read.
