Students in the Juniata County School District start their new school year on Monday, August 25.

Students & Staff, have a great year!

Drivers, be mindful of buses making stops and students that may be walking to school. Allow for extra travel time, if you're going to be on the roadway during school traffic in the mornings or afternoons.

PennDOT Work Schedule for the Week

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced the following schedule of maintenance activities in Mifflin County the week of August 25. This schedule is subject to change due to weather conditions, emergencies, or other unforeseen interruptions. The scope of work for the week is as follows:

Bridge Maintenance & Cleaning
• Route 333 at a bridge Spanning Platte Hollow Run in Thompsontown Borough. Monday, August 25, through Friday, August 29. This work takes place off the roadway and has minimal, if any, traffic impact, however PennDOT still urges drivers to exercise caution when passing crews working along the shoulder.
• Route 322 eastbound at a pair of bridges spanning Kishacoquillas Creek approximately a mile south of Reedsville in Brown Township. Monday, August 25, through Thursday, August 28. PennDOT will implement single-lane closures while this work is completed.
Pennsylvania has some of the oldest bridges in the country, with an age of more than 50 years on average. Preventive maintenance is vital in extending the life of the structures. As such, PennDOT maintenance crews perform some bridge deck patching and structural repairs.

Manual Patching
• Route 235 between Black Dog Valley Road in Delaware Township and Route 2017 (Dimmsville Road) in Greenwood Township. Monday, August 25, through Friday, August 29. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.
• Route 333 starting at Route 3028 (McLaughlin Road) and continuing eastbound approximately 9.5 miles. Monday, August 25, through Friday, August 29. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.
• Route 2006 (Summit Road) starting approximately a third of a mile east of Route 522 and continuing eastbound for approximately two tenths of a mile. Monday, August 25, and Tuesday, August 26. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.
Most permanent pothole patching is completed in the spring/summer when temperatures stay consistently above freezing. If maintenance crews were not repairing potholes, the road surface would break up further and require more expensive corrective measures.

Shoulder Maintenance
• Route 655 between the Huntingdon-Mifflin County line in Menno Township and Route 1005 (Tea Creek Road) in Brown Township. Monday, August 25, through Wednesday, August 27. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.
• All of Route 4007 (Jacks Mountain/Willis Road). Wednesday, August 27, and Thursday, August 28. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.
• Route 2002 (Belltown Road) starting approximately two-tenths of a mile west of Alfarata road in Decatur Township and continuing westbound approximately 600 feet. Wednesday, August 27, through Friday, August 29. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.
• Route 22 between Substation Road in Wayne Township and Route 4007 (Jacks Mountain Road) in Oliver Township. Friday, August 29. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.
Shoulder cutting removes excess material and debris from unpaved shoulder areas. Shoulder grading involves the shaping and stabilizing of those same areas. Both operations improve drainage, allow water to leave the roadway, and eliminate shoulder drop-offs. These are crucial highway maintenance operations because when drainage systems do not function properly, water collects on the road, weakens pavement, accelerates the formation of potholes, and creates the potential for icing conditions in the winter months.

Customers can report road concerns by calling 1-800-FIX-ROAD. If calling after hours, please leave a name and phone number.

💔 One look into Diem’s big sad puppy eyes, and you’ll wonder how this sweet girl has been waiting over a YEAR for her forever family.

Diem is about 4.5 years old and has perfected the art of balancing zoomies with snuggles — the ultimate best of both worlds! She adores people, does well with respectful kids, and is totally fine with cats. She’s a little selective when it comes to other dogs, so she’d truly shine as the only pup in the home.

She’s been patiently waiting far too long, and it’s her turn to finally be someone’s ride-or-die girl. 🐾

Could her perfect match be you?

Meet LeLe!

She's a retired breeding mama from the Amish. She's a 4 yr old, Female, Cocker Spaniel. She can live with dogs, cats and kids! She's practicing her leash skills and is learning to socialize with people. She's not used to affection and being loved on but she's coming around. She's super sweet and has such a silly personality.

Pasture Pets--there are not enough conversations about the benefits of owning pasture pets!

Rescue pasture pets are an awesome choice for any large animal lover:

🐴 Pasture pets offer companionship for your other large animals.

🐴 They reduce stress for your other animals by offering a herd mentality.

🐴 They often have the sweetest dispositions. (Typically retired horses or horses that have a medical condition--either way very used to people and touch).

🐴 Great starter horses for families--teach all the responsibilities of owning and caring for a horse

🐴 Rewarding to help an animal and shelter in need with a harder to place animal

🐴 Pasture maintenance--greatly reduce the manual labor on your part 😉

We are blessed to have two of the sweetest pasture pets in the land--Megan and Sugar! These sweet girls are constantly overlooked due to the nature that they are looking for a pasture pet home.

If you are interested in learning more about them or any of the other horses in our care please email Kristen: [email protected]

***Please note that none of our horses are broke to ride at the moment.

Ossa is great with other dogs and knows how to play fair. She can be a little shy at first, but once she decides you’re worthy of her time, you’ve got a best friend for life. Bonus? She’s doing awesome with crate and housetraining!

If you’re ready for a smart, sassy, fun-loving pup who will keep you laughing and love you endlessly, Ossa is your girl.
