Just gave a couple of very talented young musicians a tour of the studio. Selena Tibert and Belle Shea are based in Brooklyn, but are out this way touring. Catch one of their shows if you are able:
They are at The Compass room in Port Angeles this evening (8/13) beginning at 5pm.
Tomorrow, they are in Seattle for Art Walk beginning at 6pm.
On Friday, they are back here in Port Townsend at Social Fabric Brewing, also at 6pm.
Saturday afternoon at 1pm at Vintage in downtown Port Townsend, followed by a 7pm show in Seattle at Seattle Cider Company.
So, plenty of opportunities to hear them!

I was talking to a Swedish producer on Zoom last week and he made a throw away comment, “mixes always sound better when I play them in the finder.” My jaw dropped, I had also felt this for some time but thought I was being irrational. So I asked some more producers and engineers what they though...

How far she has come! Three years ago, Boys and Girls Club of America paid for this teenage Sequim native, Pearle Peterson, to come into Rainshadow Recording to record a couple of demos, Star Spangled Banner and The Impossible Dream, as an audition to sing the national anthem at thee World Series. Two World Series appearances later, Pearle is well down the road to achieving that impossible dream. Now a musical theatre student at the University of Illinois, she has just released her first single, Another You, recorded in Nashville. Check it out. Buy it!

More mics than on a drum kit! Thought we’d try a variety of mics for different styles on our Steinway B this morning:
Stereo pair of MBHO 603s in XY over the hammers, a pair of Sony C500s over the sound board, a spaced pair of AKG 414EBs over the sound board, a spaced pair of Neumann TLM-102s outside the piano looking in, a Yamahiko contact underneath and, a pair of 414EBs in omni up high for room mics. Recorded through the Quad Eight into Pro Tools at 24/192 through Lynx Aurora converters.
Thank you to Jonas Myers for putting the piano through the paces, playing jazz, classical, boogie woogie, and pop. Very pleased with the results.
