TCSO Detectives Investigating Shooting in Poplar

Around 11 a.m. on 5/2/26, TCSO Deputies were called to the 18900 Block of Avenue 145 in Poplar for a report of shots fired.

When they arrived, Deputies learned a man had pointed a gun at several people and started shooting at them. Fortunately, no one was hurt. Deputies tracked down the suspect and took him into custody. They also found shell casings at the scene.

TCSO Detectives have taken over the investigation.

Retired TCSO Deputy Passes Away

Sheriff Boudreaux is saddened to announce the passing of former Tulare County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Arthur (Art) Michael Nava.

Deputy Nava passed away today in Boise, Idaho at the age of 75.

He began his career with the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office in 1973 and was there for 12 years. He worked in Porterville and Orosi Patrol, as well as on S.T.E.P., SWAT and as a Detective. He also served in the National Guard.

Deputy Nava is survived by his wife; Hortencia, son; Martin, daughters; Ericka and Melissa and eight grandchildren.

10:13PM Structure Fire, 340 N. Conley. PFD is currently on scene and located the fire in a bedroom. All occupants have exited the residence safely. At this time the fire has been extinguished. No injuries have been reported.

Visalia Woman Arrested After Illegal Procedures Result in Severe Animal Suffering and Death
 
The Visalia Police Department’s Property Crimes Unit received reports that a woman was performing medical procedures on animals without proper qualifications or training.
As detectives investigated, they found evidence that some of these procedures were being recorded and shared on social media. Detectives also determined that proper anesthesia was not used, leaving animals to endure intense and unnecessary pain.
 
As a result, multiple animals suffered serious complications and required emergency veterinary care. Sadly, one dog did not survive.
 
The suspect was identified as 24-year-old Amanahy Becerra. A felony arrest warrant was issued for animal cruelty. On April 29, 2026, she was taken into custody without incident. Detectives also executed a search warrant at her residence. She was booked into the Tulare County Adult Pre-Trial Detention Facility.

2:15PM Traffic Accident, Vehicle vs. Motorcycle, 1012 W. Henderson. The motorcyclist was transported to an area hospital for their injuries.
