Fatal Traffic Collision

November 16, 2025 / 11:56 p.m.

Locations:

Westfield Avenue and Prospect Street

Suspect(s):

Two Male Suspects

On November 16, 2025, at 11:56 P.M., Officers with the Porterville Police Department responded to the area of Plano Street and Mulberry Avenue to assist the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office in locating a stolen vehicle. The driver of the vehicle failed to yield and a short pursuit ensued.

The suspect vehicle fled into a residential area on the west side of Porterville. A TCSO Deputy was in the area and the suspect intentionally rammed the Deputy’s patrol vehicle. The Deputy was not injured.

A short time later, a Porterville Police Officer observed the suspect vehicle traveling eastbound on Westfield Avenue at Newcomb Street at a high rate of speed. The Officer activated his emergency lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop of the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle failed to stop and continued eastbound, where it entered the intersection of Westfield Avenue at Prospect Street. When the suspect vehicle entered the intersection, the suspect vehicle struck an additional TCSO Deputy vehicle. The TCSO Deputy vehicle was travelling southbound on Prospect Street prior to entering the intersection of Prospect Street and Westfield Avenue. The collision caused the suspect vehicle to enter the yard of a nearby residence, at which time the suspect vehicle ignited a fire.

There were two occupants in the suspect vehicle. One of the suspects was pronounced deceased at the scene, and the other occupant was transported to an area hospital with major injuries. The Deputy involved in the collision was also transported to an area hospital with moderate injuries.

It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs are a factor in this incident.

The area of Prospect Street and Westfield Avenue has been shut down to protect the crime scene and is expected to remain shut-down for several hours. The Porterville Police Department requests motorists to seek alternative routes until the roadway has been cleared.

This is still an active investigation and further information will be provided at a later time.

Summary:Press ReleaseIncident: Major Injury Traffic Collision Date / Time: September 09, 2024 / 11:59 P.M.Location(s): 200 Block of North Newcomb Street, PortervilleDriver(s): 33-Year-Old Male, Porterville ResidentBicyclist(s): 38-Year-Old Male, Porterville Resident On September 09, 2024, at approximately 11:59 P.M., Porterville Police Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of North Newcomb Street regarding a traffic collision involving a bicyclist and a motorist. Officers arrived on scene shortly thereafter and located the bicyclist, a 38-year-old male, suffering from major injuries. The bicyclist was transported to Kaweah Delta Hospital, where he is being treated for life-threatening injuries. The motorist remained at the scene and was found uninjured. The Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) was summoned to assume the investigation. Officers later determined the bicyclist was traveling northbound on Newcomb Street, against the flow of traffic in the southbound lane, when he was involved in a collision with the motorist. At the time of the collision, the motorist was proceeding south in #2 southbound lane of Newcomb Street.
