From Arkansas to Austin: The Rural Record delivers prints to filmmaker Jeff Nichols.
I recently posted a few photos from the great State of Texas. The destination was Austin to deliver prints to none other than film writer and director, Jeff Nichols (Shotgun Stories, Mud, The Bikeriders).
Jeff was born and raised in Arkansas, his parents from Altheimer, a small town in the SE region of the state. I had met Jeff in March and placed a copy of The RR v2 in his hands. He soon contacted me, asking if I had any photos of Altheimer or the surrounding communities. As I hadn’t been to that part of the state for the project, my friend Matt and I spent a couple days in mid-April running around a few towns in the area.
Jeff loved the work and asked for several of the photos as prints, with one massive 32x40 to go in his office in Austin. He chose “Wabbaseka Drive By” to fill that spot as he knew he “couldn’t help but smile” every time he saw the photo.
We were able to hang out with Jeff and hear all sorts of stories, his ability to orate is akin to his writing talent.
Arkansas has a rich landscape and story to share, and that’s exactly what’s in the mind of this Arkansan director.
