Well this is super interesting. "potential protests and unlawful assembly events" as well as the rest is pretty loaded language.
One might think that ReadyPDX would maybe be geared to give everyone direct information on how to get informed when there's a public emergency and needs critical information. That's what we thought initially when seeing the name. But it is not.
On the city PBEM web site, if you know to look there, is a link for "Get Ready" which will lead you to the publicalerts.org page which will lead you the Multnomah County alerts page where you can sign up and get weather alerts. And a "Business Preparedness Bulletin".
And that's it.
So, to recap: A potential public order event involving a demonstration? Your business can be notified and I guess- lock the doors?
A potential public order event such as an emergency toxic spill, a fire, Gamera vs. Guiron, RFK Jr. force-injecting Ivermectin into your 5G enabled pets, etc? Nada.
We don't understand how this warrants it's own web site (.org? why not .gov?) or falls under the hashtag .
"Potential Protests" which are part of our First Amendment rights shouldn't be classified as a public emergency event. Even an "unlawful assembly" which is by PPB Directive 0635.10 definition " Five or more assembled persons who engage in trespass or intentionally cause, or with reckless disregard create a risk of causing, public inconvenience, annoyance, or alarm".
We need to do and be better.
