Oregon Public Utility Commission Stands up to NW Natural

This past year NW Natural had the audacity to propose a massive rate hike for its customers. But in an historic step, Oregon regulators actually reined in the utility from abusing customer money to blanket the state in pro-fossil fuel advertising and lobbying local governments to delay local climate policies. Tune in to Locus Focus this Monday morning at 10 am on KBOO Community Radio, when we talk with Bob Jenks with the Citizens Utility Board (CUB), who played a major role in stopping NW Natural from sticking it to its customers and society at large.

At long last Oregon regulators are beginning to rein in the state’s largest gas utility. Earlier this year NW Natural came to the Oregon Public Utitlity comission with a proposal to drastically raise its rates. The rate increases would mainly pay for executive bonuses, investments in an expanded i...

Slavic Hour Show on Sundays at 9AM on KBOO Community Radio 90.7FM would like to welcome you to tomorrow's show with Czech singer Lenka Lichtenberg about her new album, "Thieves of Dreams: Songs of Theresienstadt's Secret Poetess".

The backstory:
After Lenka Lichtenberg’s mother passed away in 2016, she was sorting through papers in a family desk, when she found a notebook of her grandmother, Anna Hana Friesová. Inside were poems Anna Hana had written while imprisoned at the Theresienstadt concentration camp. The poems described Anna Hana's dreams and nightmares at the concentration camp.
Also on second half of the show you will hear an incredible story of an Ukrainian Jew Vitali Buryak and the Jewish history in Ukraine.
The Jewish population of Ukraine before the Second World War was over 2.5 million. Now the current population is only around 100,000.A whole world with its very own culture, rules, and customs was decimated in the Holocaust.Decades later, descendants of survivors, along with friends and supporters, are working hard to piece together remnants of this once vibrant world. In western Ukraine and other parts of the former Austro-Hungarian empire, many restoration and educational projects are underway. But in eastern Ukraine, not so much. One man however, has taken on the gargantuan task of cataloguing Jewish shtetls in eastern Ukraine.Vitali Buryak recently discovered his Jewish roots. In the process, he created a website called History of Jewish Communities in Ukraine.I came across his website while doing research on shtetls. Vitali, also known as Chaim (his Jewish name), kindly agreed to tell his story to share with you. This is part of that conversation.

What's at Stake for the Environment this Election day?

Have the election day jitters? I don't know anyone who is sleeping well these days as we worry about what will happen on November 8. Despite the gloomy polls we need to stay positive that we can and will elect representatives across the board that understand and support the critical importance of protecting our environment and democracy as we barrel on through the unknown.
Tune into Locus Focus tomorrow morning at 10 am on KBOO Community Radio when we talk with Julia DeGraw about what's at stake for the environment, our state and the world on this coming election day.

As Election Day approaches our stomachs are contracting as our minds try to push past worst case scenarios. With so many critical races too close to call, and so much dark money being poured into some pretty scary candidates' campaigns, we need to take a close look at what is at stake for our democr...

To Any Human Being who will care and help me: No media organization will help me. Nobody responds to me at all. Not sure if my attempts to reach people are really going out to the world. I have no human or constitutional rights in America. I am a biological slave of people taking over my mind and body. I found out 13 years ago that somebody was taking over my mind and body and went for help to police, the medical community and, the government, citizens, churches, lawyers, private detectives and others. Attorneys tell me they do not take cases of clients who have been diagnosed with a mental illness. When I tell them I am the victim of a crime in progress and beg them to save me they ignore me. I have been a helpless slave of my assailants all this time. They hurt me every day and will not let me go. Two years ago they stopped forcing bizarre fantasies on me and allowed me to be aware of the horror of my situation but they will not stop hurting me and I am completely helpless and alone. Finally found a doctor who will acknowledge that I have been a victim of medical malpractice for the past 13 years but she will not acknowledge the possibility that I could be a crime victim and changed my diagnosis to Psychosis of Epilepsy and suggested that I move to Florida to get treatment. My neurologist disagrees with her diagnosis. I think it is her way of telling me I am in a political situation and that it all she can do for me. Please do what I cannot and get me some help. Save me. My counselor was told by the police that they would arrest me for going on Facebook and on chat at Powell’s bookstore and other places to get help for falsely reporting a crime a month ago. In 2009, the police threatened to arrest me if I called 911. The FBI has told me not to call 911. They know my phone number and are blacklisting me. You must have information about what technology can do to the human brain and how to protect them with it. My assailants are killing me. They will not stop hurting me. Almost nobody even answers my requests for help with a phone call or even an email. Attorneys have told me they do not accept clients diagnosed with mental illnesses. Hospitals misdiagnosed me with Schizophrenia and a Seizure Disorder without doing any testing on me. I have been told that it is very rare to have both illnesses at the same time and to develop Schizophrenia at 46 years old. News agencies and human rights organizations and politicians will not help me. None of them respond to my pleas at all. This has been going on for 12 years. Lawyers teill me that accept no clients who have been diagnosed with a biological mental illness. I think my current psychiatrist is keeping me from getting help by asserting that I am crazy but am not sure. Over twenty other psychiatrists and health care organizations in 4 different states and Washington, D.C. have mislabeled me with a biological mental illness since I was 46 years old and found out that somebody was taking over my mind and went for help. Hospitals did no testing except for CAT Scans. They treated me like my belief that somebody could be controlling my mind and body is a symptom of a biological mental illness. Don’t know if my assailants are interfering with my email and computer. I can barely function. Help me. They hurt me all the time, every day and nobody cares. Psychiatrists at Salem Hospital told me there is no such thing as a crime victim who has had their mind taken over when I called and went there on March 8th. They refused to help me. More details in attached letters. Completely helpless. Please help me. All alone. Contacted private investigators, police, the FBI, the medical and mental health community, various organizations, politicians, religious organizations and went on Facebook. New York Times, Oregonian, CNN and other news agencies are useless. I do not know if any of my emails and phone calls are going out or if my assailants are controlling that too. No technical skills. Only 2.5 years of college. Helpless. Offering one-million-dollar reward to anyone who helps to free me. Urgent. See attached for more information. Sincerely, Catherine Schneider 12310 SW Center St. Apt #17 Beaverton, OR 97005 503-330-1268 [email protected]
