Episode 6 of Widow’s Bay is a masterpiece.

If you like period horror, like The VVitch, you need to see this episode (and the whole show) because Ti West killed it with his take on the origins of this cursed island.

Betty Gilpin and Hamish Linklater star and it’s an incredible full fledged story all told in a tight 40 minutes with plenty of scares and a few good laughs.

Watch the whole show, because it’s amazing, but Episode 6 in particular deserves its own Emmy. It’s the best period horror I’ve seen in a few years, and it’s an episode of TV. Ti West just gets it.

The mayor of Widow’s Bay sent me a package!

I absolutely love this show. If you’re at all into horror or thrillers or anything folksy and Stephen King, this is a must-see.

Thanks Apple TV for sending this my way!

This moment changed the way I thought about Silence of the Lambs.

I got to rewatch the movie on the big screen in 4K (thanks to the Somerville Theatre for the screening) and this brief interaction between Clarice and Hannibal stood out. I think it’s a way to actually downplay the trope of the “trans maniac” that was pervasive in Hollywood and horror for many years.

Hannibal clearly outlines Buffalo Bill’s true psyche, one that comes from trauma and hating himself. He’s tried to be many things - this is just another one in a long line.

As Clarice says, there’s no research to suggest trans individuals are any more violent than any other group. It’s a brilliant exchange, maybe 2 or 3 lines tops, that changes the way that character of Buffalo Bill should be viewed and how the movie should be perceived as a whole.

PS - Silence of the Lambs still kicks ass after all these years. The pacing is insanely quick and the movie flies by because of how great everyone is. Anthony Hopkins is an absolute legend, and Jodie Foster should be leading the FBI in every timeline.

Mike Myers confirmed Austin Powers 4 is coming during Trevor Noah’s World Cup stream. But is it real?

I have a feeling it is. Between that video clip of Myers confirming the movie and this new Verizon ad that dropped this week featuring Dr. Evil, it sure feels like they’re gearing up for another movie.

It makes sense. Nostalgia is huge right now. Look at Scary Movie 6 and its success at the box office. People are looking for this type of movie again, and I think Austin Powers makes a ton of sense.

Think about all the parody they could do around Dr. Evil as an evil billionaire. It’s a bit too close to real life these days.

So will it happen? We will see. But if I was a betting man, I’d be putting bets on Austin Powers 4 coming soon.

Here are my thoughts on Disclosure Day - no spoilers in this video, so don’t spoil it in the comments.

Disclosure Day is a fun, fantasy, alien adventure movie. It’s a Spielberg movie through and through, right down to the John Williams score.

Is it Close Encounters, no. Not quite. Close Encounters is a masterpiece. But this is a very good movie and certainly kept me entertained and engaged throughout the runtime, with a very nice payoff at the end.

I need more of this. It felt like a blockbuster, with an original idea and all the fun of the big action adventure movies we used to get all the time before they forced them to come with a comic book.

It was a bit similar in some ways to KNOWING (2009) but nothing too bad. Certainly not the same story or ending. But you’ll see what I mean if you’ve watched that movie - which I do recommend quite a bit.

It’s a good time at the movie theater, another great entry in an amazing 2026 at the movies, and you should go see it with a crowd!

Can The Social Reckoning live up to the greatness of The Social Network?

David Fincher and Jesse Eisenberg are out. Aaron Sorkin and Jeremy Strong are in - with a loaded cast including Mikey Madison, Jeremy Allen White, Wunmi Mosaku, Bill Burr, Betty Gilpin, and Billy Magnussen.

The story will focus on the 2021 Facebook whistleblower leak which exposed how Facebook and Meta products knowingly pushed their product on teenager girls even while it increased the rate of mental health struggles and body image issues within that demographic.

It’s a fascinating story which will probably play out more like All The President’s Men or Spotlight than The Social Network, but I love this kind of journalistic, investigate whistleblower type of storyline and Aaron Sorkin certainly knows how to write to this style.

The Social Reckoning will be in theaters on October 6, 2026 from Sony Pictures.
