The normally spacious live room at Type Foundry Studios is a mess. The Lucky Few – Kari Newhouse’s new music. | Dean K Productions

Producer Dean Kattari spent a few a days at Type Foundry recording drums for Kari Newhouse's latest album. He had some nice things to say on his blog: "One of the reasons I wanted to record at Type Foundry is that their biggest room somehow makes drums sound absolutely wonderful. Especially at a distance. The early reflections were pleasing and if you wanted to get that John Bonham, When The Levee Breaks drum sound, this would be the place to do it. But you also could get a clean, up-front sound for the drums if you wanted."

Houndstooth: No News from Home

New Houndstooth record on No Quarter Records out April 4th! Basic tracks were done at TF last year.

Portland's Houndstooth first emerged as a dynamic live act skirting the difference between breezy country rock and tightly-coiled krautrock, but eventually they abridged their epic jams into tidy pop songs. Here the band have developed a more confident dynamic, evoking a sense of motion and travel.

This week - Ural Thomas & the Pain in the house!

How Super Producer Rick Rubin Gets People To Do Their Best Work

Rick Rubin's goal is to get people to do their best work. In that sense, he is a leader. And as a life-long practitioner of meditation, he has figured out how to affect others the way meditation affects him.
