Under Co-Speaker Bruce Hanna's leadership, Oregon proves to be a national model for bipartisan governance.

The Oregon House of Representatives was, by virtually every account, a model for bipartisan comity this year. Republican and Democratic lawmakers didn’t just keep the peace. They approved major policy changes with strong support from members of both parties in Salem.

So long as he’s got power, he seems fully intent on using it with little regard for the Constitution.

Obama says that the Supreme Court would be taking an “unprecedented, extraordinary step” by overturning the Obamacare since the act was passed by “a strong majority of Congress.” He is wrong on both the history and the math.

The litany of incursions repulsed, like the Sellwood Bridge fee, Urban Renewal, and the Damascus Comprehensive Plan, and boondoggles yet to be defeated, like Milwaukie Light Rail, is all too familiar now.

Recent votes in the United States Senate demonstrate that bipartisanship is not dead. Given the votes in question, we might well wish that it were.

There is really no case to be made for corporate welfare. It distorts markets, lines the pockets of the already well off, burdens the taxpayer, contributes to the national debt and corrupts our politics. There is nothing in it for the public, but there can be for members of Congress...

Wind, Timber and Hypocrisy in the Pacific Northwest...

At one site alone 2,400 raptors, including 70 golden eagles, have been killed by the giant whirling blades. In 2009 the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service estimated the national death toll from wind turbines at 440,000 birds that year alone.

If the jobs package is of such limited importance relative to the health care and education reforms, why don’t Democrats happily accept them? You have to wonder what it is they think they would be giving up by encouraging a little job growth.
