James Hayman: Although there are a lot of great neighborhoods in the city of Portland, anyone who reads my books must know that Munjoy Hill has long been my favorite. My hero Mike McCabe, his girlfriend Kyra and his daughter Casey share a three-bedroom condo on the Eastern Prom “looking out at Casco...

Julia Spencer-Fleming, author of the terrific Rev. Clare Fergusson/Russ Van Alstyne series, is a good friend and a great thriller writer. She was kind enough to interview me for her own website. Check out the interview and also check out Julia's latest, One Was a Soldier, due from Minotaur in April, 2011.

Another great UK review for The Cutting, this one from The Daily Mail one of the largest newspapers in the country. Starting to get a swelled head.

This crackling debut from a former New York advertising man packs a terrific punch, and comes complete with pace and panache, but it is dark meat. Hayman doesn’t write for the fainthearted.

Terrific First review of The Cutting from a leading Brit book blogger.

Tops in 2010! The Cutting and The Chill were two of the top ten fiction books (most often checked out) at the Portland Public Library for the last half of 2010. Steig Larrson and James Patterson were the only other writers to score doubles. Here's the complete list:

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest by Steig Larsson; The 9th Judgment by James Patterson; U is for Undertow by Sue Grafton; The Cutting by James Hayman; 61 Hours by Lee Child; I, Alex Cross by James Patterson; The Chill of the Night by James Hayman; Water for Elephants by Sue Gruen; The Girl Who Played with Fire by Steig Larsson; and That Old Cape Magic by Richard Russo.

"Who is the best antagonist (Villain) of all time (Other than Hannibal Lechter?)" Join me, James Hayman, and five other talented thriller writers at this International Thriller writers Roundtable discussion. And feel free to add your own thoughts!

The villain -- the person we all love to hate. Or do we? Some say it's really the villain who drives the story. If that's true, who's your favorite evil mastermind of all time, and why? Raymond Benson, C.E. Lawrence, George Eby, Grant Blackwood, Hank Phillippi Ryan and James Hayman answer the ques

The Cutting (same book, diferent cover, different publisher) comes out in the UK and British Commonwealthon January 6th. To be followed by The Chill of Night in July. Next Friday, I'll be meeting with my British publisher, Penguin UK, in London to discuss the launch and marketing and publicity. According to "The Bookseller" Penguin "is determined to build" the McCabe novels.

Anyone who's read The Chill of Night knows that the brutally low
temperatures of a very, very cold Maine winter play a key role in my story. But if you think it was cold in Mike McCabe's Portland, wait till you read Lee Childs' terrific 14th Jack Reacher thriller 61 Hours. If you like the Reacher books, check out my blog about Childs' and his vivid descriptions of the brutal South Dakota cold.
