Bob Stark Producer/Recordist/Mixer

Bob Stark Producer/Recordist/Mixer This page is all about introducing you to what I do as a Producer/Recordist/Mixer.

LUNA - well, i finished my third mix in LUNA. the result? i'm going to be remixing a project that i had finished in pro tools completely in LUNA. right now, i'm happy for my past in the analog world. i know exactly what i'm listening for. the great thing about LUNA is it allows me to go either direction. i can go after that recorded on tape/mixed through a console sound, or go for a very pristine clean "digital" sound and all the colors in between... as of now, LUNA is my preferred mixing platform. i personally know two big league engineers that have switched to LUNA as well. i'll leave it to them to post their thoughts and divulge their switch at their leisure. we're all having a similar experience. Kudos to the folks at Universal Audio! I can't wait for V2! ... seriously, can't wait!

Pro Tools HD users... I'm letting go of one of my HDX cards. Here it is over on Reverb.

Pro Tools HD users... I'm letting go of one of my HDX cards. Here it is over on Reverb.

AVID HDX PCIe CARDExpand your Pro Tools HD SystemCard is in excellent conditionHas been in the studio in one computer for the life of the cardThanks for looking!

LUNA day whatever... taking photos of an HDX card later today... read into that what you want.

LUNA day 6 or 7ish... It's really apparent as I jump between Pro Tools and LUNA a few times a day that LUNA just sounds better.

LUNA day 4 - I have to sell one of my Avid HDX cards and get another UAD onto core card... read into that what you want 😁

LUNA day 2...

Well i can't wait to get speedy on this. and i will! It's obvious that this is going to be my new mix platform. the neve summing is beyond the price of admission. If the tracking feels good this could easily become my main DAW.

the concept of the layout has been so easy to learn. most of the key commands duplicate pro tools so it's under my hands fairly quickly.

if i go full on UAD, i'll probably need another octo core card to work any large mixes at 96k. or just not use UAD plugs on everything... but they do sound pretty great.

even Kristen popped in for a minute and commented how much better the GUI looked. i agree. it's been pretty easy to look at all day and with the correct color coding it's very easy to have a layout i recognize.

i'm doing a test mix for Jarrod Lawson on this platform and i think we'll be going back and hitting a few mixes we did in pro tools in LUNA. the soundstage is much clearer IMHO.

again, for version 1.0 ***** five stars!

LUNA 1st impression... producer's dream (especially once some external controllers are enabled). songwriters nightmare.

sonics are top drawer!

this seems to be built for people that want to create from the ground up. UAD is not supplying drum loops, intelligent chord designers, autotune, etc. but they are giving a beautiful platform to create something new on.

workflow is very intuitive, and at the moment it isn't, it's pretty easy to figure out what i should've done.

i'll be doing a lot of work in LUNA as the lockdown continues... even attempting to mix an album! (boy i could use some fader controls.)

anyhoo, i'll post more thoughts about it as i go along.

today's basement mix session... Jarrod Lawson! Holy cow i wish i could stream some of the music i've been working on. y'all will just have to wait 'til it's released. Good stuff coming on the other side of covid!

internet mixing tonight for Chance Hayden... cool stuff on its way! #BeatleBass

up and running at the home setup. it's a good sounding room but needs some more treatment to become a permanent option. here's to going back to work ASAP!

well, i’ll be leaving my studio for a few weeks whilst the stay at home orders are in place. i’m scrambling to get an interim mix room set up at home so i can continue to do some production work. so if anyone requires their music to be mixed/edited/tuned at this moment, i’ll be up and running by the end of the week.

i work in pro tools, but i am comfortable importing your session from Logic Pro X, Cubase, Digital Performer and Ableton Live.

June 1st...

Hey friends. I'm sure you've seen and will see plenty of promotion from Trevor about this, but I wanted to share a little something myself. What I love to do most of all is write and produce for other artists, so it was an honor when Trevor asked to sing one of my compositions. Engineered, orchestrated and co-produced by the masterful Bob Stark Producer/Recordist/Mixer, with Bryan Daste on pedal steel, this one was a lot of fun. Trevor is extremely talented, so please give his page a like if you want to stay updated on his musical career (Trevor Dunn music). He did a phenomenal job taking this song to another level. I hope it moves you like it does me. The full single will be out June 1st...

Playing Favorites - Val Gardena feat. David Torn

it's legal for me to put up one of my own compositions, right? this was 2015... might have been the last time i played piano on a piece of released music. but there you have it.

Only 18 plays but that's just how saturated music is these days. now how do i get to 1billion?!? let's get this sucka to go viral!!! ambient... the new pop! 😛

P.S. technically it's called Composition VIII. but apparently tunecore didn't like that title when the label uploaded it...

up 'til now i've been silent on my faves, but this one was a super turning point for me... six musical monsters on this track, Douglas, Michael Shrieve, Wayne Horvitz, Bill Frisell, David Torn, and Michael Rhodes. I enjoyed every moment of the making of this album. Thanks to Michael Shrieve and Douglas for trusting me with this project. Also thanks to Daniel Mendez for being 100% on point ALL THE TIME! nothing like having a great assistant who is now having a great career as well.

I really felt like I found my musical home after working on this project... I even played guitar on one track that has torn doing torn and frisell doing frisell... still gives me chills when i think about it...
