Thanks to family, piano friends like Mark Westcott, pianist , Michelles Piano Company , Classic Pianos , Portland Piano Company , & anyone who shared resources to help me study the most important instrument an engineer can master, artists like Three For Silver , Aaron Petit, Pianist , & faaaaar too many others to possibly list, my favorite players in the field including Mojave Audio, Royer Labs, Shure, & OktavaMod , visionary organizations like Great Arts. I do a lot of audio/video recording in the orchestral world -- chamber music, pianos, choirs, orchestras of 50+ instrumentalists on stage. People playing Mozart, Bach Beethoven, Vivaldi & whatnot. Beautiful music we've preserved for centuries.

My first orchestra I worked with didn't have a single dark-skinned person in there. Not in management, not back stage, not on the stage. I never crossed paths with a black human in the seven years I worked with that orchestra. There were certainly people of different nationalities, but everyone was light-skinned & still are.

I've recorded a lot of piano students who represent the next generations of brilliance on the keys. Truly amazing young people between 7 & 20-something years old. No black students, ever.

I've worked with choirs, large & small, with as many as 60+ voices in multiple states. Men's choirs, women's choirs, co-ed choirs, children's choirs. I've never seen a person of dark skin in those groups over the years. All white folks.

The vast majority of this music we're taught to cherish & respect was written by white men & commissioned by rich white people. The entire canon of classical music -- as far as I know -- is essentially rich white people jams. In some cases, i.e., Wagner, the music is composed by a genius who is outright publicly anti-Semitic, yet it is still held in equally high regard.

While there's a lot of truly wonderful classical music, the fact of the matter is that THE FOUNDATION ITSELF IS RACIST, SEXIST, & CLASSIST. If the orchestral world wants to exist with any grace in the 21st century, the music has to change & incorporate new ideas from minds that see color & acknowledge those disparities in our world. The level of outreach to underprivileged communities & equity in the workplace has to change. How funding is distributed needs to change -- starting with defunding the Military-Industrial complex, including police.

Rather than acting as the amplifier for only the white upper-class, we need to include ideas from different cultures than our own. The crowd that once longed to fall asleep in the concert hall listening to sweet nothings composed by Brahms is disappearing & new badass s**t needs to go down on stage if the orchestra is going to survive.

A revolution without dancing is a revolution not worth having.

Hey everyone,

This is a post to inform dear friends, colleagues, & clients about a change in my life.

I've been a professional music producer/audio engineer for a decade & this artistic endeavor no longer inspires me as it once did. I do not feel the excitement of a great tracking session & look forward to mixing -- this is a quiet, empty space to which I feel obliged with solitary labor.

The very thing that I loved -- this art form & the rush of giving birth to new music -- has become a "job" for me. People with whom I once felt connected have come & gone their ways or are at too great a distance to share the sense of accomplishment. I am a collector of their brilliance, left alone with archives of digital ghosts on my hard drives. I have mastered my process three times over & would love to teach, but cannot find students willing to trade for the knowledge.

I don't want to work alone anymore. I will not cut my rates in HALF anymore. I will not give heartfelt consultation -- my time -- to music groups who then say "we decided not right now". I have to grow.

I will be providing music production services thru the end of the 2018-2019 season & will keep select clients towards 2020. For new clients, my rate starting 2019 will be $100/hr. I will be dissolving LANSKY SOUND, LLC. & carrying forward without a registered legal entity because the taxes are so F'ing whack to deal with.

I will be shifting my work towards film production & am available for hire to shoot your videos.

If you would like to continue supporting my creative processes, please check out my award-winning action-comedy film Blackfinger. I wrote, directed, played the lead role, & edited this movie with the help of my amazing friends in Oregon. At this time, BLACKFIИGER holds the place of my greatest opus & I guarantee you will laugh at this movie. DVDs will be available for purchase soon, hopefully in time for the holidays.
