Mind Flowers on Wmpg

found this thing I wrote on my DJ page a while back.

One reason I became a DJ is my passion for playing music you wouldn't usually hear on the radio but may recognize. In my childhood so much music, I heard every day was being sampled from other (often better, much older) songs. As an adult, discovering the original songs that were sampled was like finding out a movie you loved in your childhood had an even better book or vice versa.

It was a really fun, exciting discovery for me, and I began to spend hours a day, finding new songs, listening to albums upon albums of weird, cool, freaky, emotional music.

My curiosity for the world's best music will never end. I have heard some of the most beautiful music, and I am so happy this is a passion project for me. It's taken me to so many places and grown my love for cultural stories, including my own culture in Brazil, where some of the most beautiful music exists.

The fact that there's music out there I would LOVE but haven't discovered yet, gets me feeling hopeful, excited and determined enough to find it.

I hope to be back on the radio sometime, sharing my soul with you all. I feel so loved, and happy when I'm playing you good people music and you call in from all over the world, saying you like it. Its an enormous compliment.

For a long time, I felt music lost its soul, vulnerability, and depth, UNTIL people like Kendrick Lamar, Solange, Fatima, Leon Bridges, and many other artists put me in my place. I'm very excited to be alive in this time and hear such beautiful music continue to be made. Creative, honest, beautiful music has always been by my side and gotten me through a lot. Music is a huge emotional support for me. I wish I could listen to my favorite music all day, and new exciting music I've never heard. (While writing this I'm currently listening to Teach me how to Dougie' because it's fun!!) I also love fun, hype, dance music.

Lastly, and honestly most importantly- shout out to my love for movement/activist music from the 1970's, Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, LOVE, Stevie Wonder, The Stylistics, The Monks, Black Sabbath, Caetano Veloso
