Today, Tuesday March 7, 2023, is the 100th anniversary of Fr. Thomas Keating’s birth. Enjoy the 16-minute video linked in this post, where my wife Donna and I share a few as-yet-untold stories of Fr. Thomas’ humor and wisdom, as a way of animating his presence in your life: https://youtu.be/qECnpcNHaHs.
A life of contemplative action and prayer is essential for human flourishing, if not plain survival, in our hyper-busy, technological, crisis-plagued world.

May God gift you with peace, health and Presence in your prayer and action in our broken and joyous world.

Good wishes,
David Frenette

Heart Intention is a contemplative practice that, with Centering Prayer, helps us respond to the new challenges we are facing. In Centering Prayer and Heart Intention, two great streams of Christian contemplation – the Prayer of the Cloud and the Prayer of the Heart – meet, in service of an integrative approach to meditation.

>> Join us in learning Heart Intention, a contemplative practice that

* lets intention and meaning flow into our lives;

* integrates the receptive simplicity of Centering Prayer with a nuanced practice that is embodied, engaged, and that embraces our humanity;

* helps us act in our challenging world from a heart more present to God.

This three-week online class includes three new recorded video teachings, three live Zoom practice sessions with time for Q/A with David, and access to written resources. This course is for anyone looking for ways to meaningfully integrate their Centering Prayer practice into daily activity and contemplative service.

🌱 We'll learn how Centering Prayer’s greatest relevance for our contemporary world is in the way it can flow into contemplative petition and contemplative service, into what happens off the prayer seat, in the integration of silence and speech, stillness and action.

Help! Our world, our loved ones and we ourselves are in need of help. Always, and it seems especially, now. How can we use our Centering Prayer practice to connect with the needs around us and to pray for help in a way that is aligned with our contemplative journey?

This workshop will explore the practice of contemplative petition: prayers of intercession flowing from the dynamic silence and stillness of Centering Prayer. Contemplative petition can help embody our Centering Prayer practice with intention, connecting it with our human needs and the needs of the world. This is not just “praying for what we want” in a materialistic or magical-thinking way. This practice is about surrendering into God in trust, as ultimately, contemplative petition is God in us, praying for God in others.

This weekend... choose some inspiring, supportive connection.

Fear, outrage and uncertainty in the face of personal and global change, loss and collapse all share a single root: a sense of separation — from ourselves, from one another, and from God. And yet we know in our heart of hearts, and have experienced in deep contemplative practice, that everything is unified in God, the timeless reality in which we live and move and have our being.
