Well tonight was eventful. When I went down to feed the horses Murphy was down . Looked like colic as he was in quite a bit of pain. I tried to get him up but he did not want to. I called the vet and they were out within 30 minutes . I sat with him and kept him from rolling . I also gave him a big dose of Banamine while waiting. When the vet got here we got Murphy up and started checking vitals . Temp was good and good stomach noises. The vet was just starting to reach into Murphy to feel for a compaction and look at the manure when Murphy farted . It was so loud, so long, and so dramatic this fart could’ve been composed by Beethoven. Once Murphy was done with his fart, he looked around and wanted to start eating again. Not only did he want to eat, but he quit pawing at the ground and didn’t try to lay back down again. He acted completely normal. He legit had a tummy ache from gas. He literally just passed a $400 fart 💨. The vet left to head back home and go to bed, and I stayed and looked around to see why his tummy got upset. I ended up finding a couple huge blackberry vines that Eros had tossed over the fence into his area .
QuickTime out here so I can explain this. All of my horses handle blackberries fine except for Murphy. He has always been a bit allergic to them. So we make sure we keep everything cut back from his fencing.
Ok back to Eros trying to off his grandpa . Eros had been eating the berries and pulled a bunch of the vines into his paddock. He must’ve decided once he was done to throw his trash over in Murphy’s paddock. I don’t know if he has some sort of life insurance policy on Murphy or what , but it’s a little bit suspicious. Murphy for reasons completely unknown to me decided to just eat the vines. No fruit on them just felt like eating the barbed wire version of vegetation. All of this added up to Murphy’s fantastically expensive flatulence. I just checked the cameras to make sure the Prince of Poots was ok and he is happily munching away on his hay . Zero signs of discomfort. If anyone needs me I will be in bed until October.

Eros has a serious case of FOMO. He always falls asleep with his head out the door so he does not miss any of the comings and goings of the barn night life .
Barn night life …. I just seriously cracked myself up because that just has so many more meanings now than it used to. Instead of a deer going by, or some raccoons , it can now mean my senior Horses trying to have some sort of a s*x party in the upper barn. Or it can mean my nosy ass neighbor using night vision goggles to take in the show. All I know is I’ve traded in the sounds of owls and crickets for Kenny G and Barry Manilow. 🤦‍♀️

I live this picture so much. 4 month old , 45 pound Francisco . He ripped one of my flowers apart 🙄 he was so freaking cute with the flower I could not get mad . I added a blurred background and am going to use this as a framed photo . He is turning out so beautifully.

Tonight I moved Murphy up by Mariah because we have tree people coming in the morning to take down a dead tree near the barns . I also turned on the electric tape as an extra deterrent for any funny business .
What I did not expect was for Mariah to go full seductress mode in the first 5 minutes . She has shown zero signs of being in heat ( normally she is really easy to read ) so I was a bit shocked when she started her “ hey big boy” dance ,And then Murphy was a bit shocked as well . Literally . He was trying to impress Mariah and reared up while at full attention . He misjudged the size of his own lightsaber ( as one does) and hit it on the electric tape on his way down. There was a loud zap sound and both horses took off running . I felt bad for Murphy but was glad to know the two of them still had a spark between them. Very romantic. Mariah did not seem sorry . I swear I heard her say “welcome to the splash zone”
The tape did its job and both of them are happily eating right now. I could not help but laugh at the face Murphy was giving me . Freaking horses , they crack me up 🤣

This is is so amazing !!!! This is the relationship everyone looks for

08/07/2026

My Eros 💘 people ask me how our stallions are so calm . One of the main reasons is they are handled with love from day one . Eros may be a lot bigger than me now ( and more grey) but he is still a cuddle bug . Yep , an intact one year old stud c**t that’s sweet and well mannered 😎
It’s amazing how much he has grown in one year.

I love my horses. I really do. However , I am fully aware they would win every gold medal in the As***le Olympics .

It turns out I am not the only one that was having trouble with all of the smoke today A couple of hours ago I was re-reading one of my favorite books with my kitties and out of nowhere they jumped up and gave their “I see dead people” faces . I stop reading , look around and by the time I am back to the couch both girls are back asleep . Cats …. Ffs. So I start reading again and about 10-15 minutes later I feel something flutter across my cheek . I could see something out of the corner of my eye as well . Of course I handled it with my usual calm . I screamed , threw my book in the direction of what I thought I saw and turned on every single light in the room. I also looked under my blanket for some reason, I’m not sure why but at the time it felt like the right thing to do. My cats stayed loyal and at my side . Just kidding , they almost knocked each other out trying to run up the stairs first to leave me in the room alone. For a brief second, I’m thinking oh my God my neighbor finally found a way to curse me. This is some sort of Murphy p***s demon. I start to find some semblance of Calm and almost have myself talked into that I somehow imagined it. Was I so into my book that I just lost track of my surroundings? Nope ! Less than a minute later, a bat comes flying out of my kitchen, right past my face , through the front room ,down the hallway and disappears into the TV room. I was thinking well s**t , how am I going to take care of this by myself?then it hits me I have been married over 20 years. per law, My husband has to wake up and help me with this. So I run upstairs and try to wake up my husband as gently as possible “ Jim!!! Jim!!! You need to wake up there is a bat in the house ! Wake up!!!! It’s down there unsupervised right now!” My poor husband just trying to wake up goes “ what’s unsupervised in the house right now?” “A freaking bat Jim! A mouse that learned how to fly ! Get up let’s go!”
We go downstairs and I kept Jim between me and the TV room as I came around the corner. I looked in and saw nothing. Both the dogs were asleep. Everything looks fine. We searched the house for about 20 minutes and found nothing. Jim goes “ are you sure it wasn’t just a big fly or a moth?” A moth or a fly ???? He did not just say that to me . My perimenopausal brain snapped. “Siri show me a picture of a bat because my husband thinks I am a liar” Jim -“ I did not call you a liar. I just think that maybe you were exaggerating about what you think you saw.” *My eye starts twitching* “Jim…”
My husband finally sees the light and decides to look through the house one more time out of pure survival instinct . We look through everything again and find nothing. Jim asks if I checked behind the Kincaid painting. I said what’s a bat going to do behind the Kincaid painting? I pull back the painting and there is the bat hanging from the mounting wire on the back of the painting. It’s not moving . “Jim I think the Kincaid painting killed the bat” Jim reassure me that if it’s hanging onto the wire, it is still very much alive.
We sit there for a few minutes and Jim goes “ well why don’t you go put on your gardening gloves and reach back there and just grab it and we’ll take it outside” yeah ok let me grab one of Dracula’s distant relatives and just carry it through the house like a little winged puppy dog. Sure thing . After I politely told my incredible husband that that was not going to happen, he recommended we pick up the Kincaid painting on each side and carry it outside. My first reaction was, I don’t want my Kincaid painting out in the smoke. But then the bat started rustling around and I came to the conclusion sacrifices had to be made. We each took a side of the frame and very carefully took it off the wall . We walked slowly down the hall and made it to the front door . While Jim was trying to unlock the door the bat was getting agitated. At that point I was done, and Jim could see it in my face. Jim-“hold your s**t together babe we are almost there” i’m already looking at the bathroom door because if that little bastard starts to fly again, I’m locking myself in the bathroom and spending the night there. “Amy hold it together! I have the door open” “Amy move your feet , do you want ice cream after this?” Ice Cream at 2am ??? F*** yes I did ! I started moving my feet and Jim got his end out the front door. As I was almost to the front door the bat took off and flew off into the woods. I cried ( don’t judge me! Did I mention I’m perimenopausal and I have no control over my emotions right now!) My incredible husband brought the bat Kincaid back in and closed up the house . He then held true to his word and made us a bowl of ice cream to share. My two kitties came down from upstairs and also wanted some ice cream. I’m not sure how they earned it, but they are cute as s**t so we are just going to go with it.
Jim is back in bed already asleep, and I am watching golden girls with an ice cream sugar high at 3:30 am

In Oregon we have the 5th worst air quality in the world today because over 2 million acres are on fire in our state . We have been through air quality this horrible before during the summer so I thought I would just share some of the tips I use to help manage . In the house- I make sure I have a towel in the stove top vent that leads to outside. The also put towels in the vents around the fireplace . We have three different air purifiers going in the house. The other important thing to do is set up staging areas before you enter your home. If you just open your front door and leave it open while going in and out you’re going to let in a lot of smoke. We get everything we need in the garage like groceries ,close the garage then we take everything into the mudroom close that door and then move into the house. Some smoke gets in but not much . We also make sure we have fresh weatherstripping around the doors at the beginning of every summer.
When in your car the simplest thing you can do is push that little button that’s the shape of a car with the arrow going in a half circle in the middle of it. That will circulate the air in your car and not pull in any air from outside. That’s the easiest way to keep your car as safe as possible while driving. We also have masks with us if we need to be down at the barn for extended times . The one time I didn’t wear a mask during this and I got a bloody nose and a very sore throat.
For the horses we do our best . Keep their movement calm and limited . Fresh water , lots of fans and a giant gable fan to pull the smoke from the ceiling . If I ever see a horse in distress, I get a clean towel. Soak it in cold water wring it out and hold it over their nose and have them breathe through it. I’m not a vet, but that has always worked for us.
For our dogs : our pug already being a brachiocephalic breed is not allowed out at all . We put p*e pads down and he uses those . For our golden puppy leash walks out to do his business and immediately back in . Zero running outside right now.
For our cats : they live their normal pampered life - inside only, with room service , Disney plus tv and their iPads .
This is our fourth or fifth serious fire season so I’m just sharing some tips that I hope will help others. One more serious thing is to always have a go bag If you are in an area that is even remotely in danger. Have in it your identification, credit cards, important documents, and your basic necessities . Have a go bag for your pets pre-set up. If you have pets that need kennels know where they’re at and have them easily accessible. Have a destination in mind whether it be a loved one or a hotel that takes pets.
We are not in danger of the fires right now , just the smoke . But I know how fast things change so I always have everything set up during fire season.
Be safe everyone .
