SCREENWRITING: EIGHT WEEKS TO A FIRST DRAFT

THE CLASS: You are finally ready to write that screenplay that has been rattling around your head...now what? OR; You have written a screenplay but aren't sure if it is working. Old story or new inspiration, either way this class is the right one for you.

In this class we break down the structure of story and fully develop your idea into a proper script. We begin with the basic 3 act structure then break it down even further into fifteen beats... our signposts to completion. We will work together for eight weeks, developing your script. This is an intensive course that gives you the discipline and commitment it takes to keep writing. You will have completed first draft of your script at the end of the eight weeks.

PRICE: The course is $250.00 and taught by local writer/producer/director Steve Coker. (Sign up before May 10th and the class will only cost $200.00).

On Saturday, each week for 8 weeks we will meet to discuss your work and develop your voice as a storyteller, all while teaching you the fundamentals and language of the screenplay.

I’m looking to restart my popular Screenwriting Class: “Eight Weeks to a First Draft” I only take 5 students and guide them through the process of taking an idea for a feature film and fleshing it out into a finished first draft. We would meet every Monday for two hours, share what we had written with other students and learn how to properly format your script so someone will want to keep reading it! As many of you may know, I was lucky enough to partner with Stumptown Stages who have decided to take our cabaret workshop piece "The Adventures of Dex Dixon: Paranormal Dick" to the next level and produce it as a full-blown stage musical. KJ McElrath and I have written 13 original songs for the new production, and currently Pete Petersen is working on the arrangements for the orchestra. The show will open in January 2016 and it is our hope to produce an original cast album to premier at the opening. We need your help to make this happen. Screenwriting: 8 Weeks to a First Draft
This is the only screenwriting class taught in Portland that actually produces a complete first draft of your script. I have successfully mentored over three dozen writers to completion of their first drafts and beyond. Several of these scripts have gone on to be filmed or are in production now.

Remember int he production world of Hollywood, no one is looking for a reason to read your script… they are looking for a reason NOT to read it. Don't give them a reason to round file your work… keep them engaged to the final scene. I will show you how.
