Level Up is back! And for our final workshop of 2025, we are stoked to have Desert Island Studios co-founder as the instructor. 🎭

Join us for Working With Actors next Saturday November 29th from 10 AM to 1 PM. The registration link is in our profile. This is sure to sell out, so if you are interested please sign up asap!

About the Class
Actors are central to the success of a film, TV, or commercial project but what’s the best way to find the right actor for a project? Are there different approaches for low/no budget vs. big budget? What about casting for a film, TV, commercial, or music video? How does SAG work? What is a Deal Memo? How do you work with Talent Agents & Casting Agents? Once you book an actor, what is the most effective way for you to communicate with them in rehearsal and on set? And once the project is complete, what role do your actors play in the publicity and marketing of your film? We will answer these questions and more in this informative workshop.

Participants will leave with a strong understanding of how to professionally engage with top tier talent, as well as how to source indie talent for art projects. There will be interactive learning opportunities to get an idea of how to best work with actors on set, as well as an overview of how talent plays into the festival circuit and marketing strategy.

Free to attend, snacks and drinks provided!

Thank you to our partners and supporters who make this workshop series possible 🙏🎬

What a team! What a set! ⚽️

We got to flex the full scope of what Studio A is capable of on this in house production with Sophia Smith/Xfinity/GMR Marketing.

We had three sets on the black c*c and two photo set ups on the white c*c which cultivated a seamless flow between video/photo teams, and produced a nice variety of looks for our client.

Simplify your next production and work with us as your one stop shop. Creative 👉Production👉Studio👉We got you!

Just doing a little throw back and a BIG shout out to film festival to make sure you all know submissions are currently open for 2026. The Island can’t speak highly enough of Portland Panorama 📽️🎞️.

We had an absolute blast at their inaugural year. It was one of the best fests we attended in 2025, and it is right here in our hometown📍PDX

From shorts blocks, to features, to the music video showcase, panels, and parties… all hosted in the best movie theaters fueled by incredible curation and community activation. And organized by a very thoughtful and passionate filmmaker led team.

We saw so many incredible movies and were proud to be reppin’ 9 projects in the fest either produced or supported by DIS 💞

So… polish off that edit and get your submission in for Portland Panorama 2026.

See you there!!

About the Workshop
Sound design might not be the first thing you notice when watching a film, TV show, or commercial, but it is one of the most crucial elements within media. From dialog capture on set through final sound design and mix; each part of the process requires both learned skills and attention to detail. In this introductory workshop we will discuss what Production and Post Sound Mixers do, how the roles relate, and pathways into those careers. This class will cover the basics of the sound team structure and include examples of professional audio equipment, industry standard software and approaches to common scenarios on and off set.

About the Instructor
Troy Micheau is a Production Sound Mixer, Boom Operator and Post Sound Editor based in Oregon. His career in sound began with recording and mixing music before moving into post and production sound for video. He has captured audio for narrative, commercial and documentary projects (both union and non) throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond while mixing features, shorts and digital media for Portland’s filmmakers and producers. He has a Bachelors in Education that he thought he’d never use and is happy to share his knowledge with up and coming sound people!

As always major thank you to our program partners Pathway Programs . We would not be able to host these community workshops without your support!! 🙏
