This past March, Mark, a prenatal Adya and I experienced the joy of shooting a documentary in the beautiful Sindhupalchok region northeast of Kathmandu in Nepal.
Our experiences and memories have changed us forever. We got to know tons of wonderful people, ate so many creative versions of rice and lentils, drank loads of chai and laughed with kids of all ages. We shared stories with kind Nepalese drivers and translators as we huddled around wood stoves to keep warm at night. The roads were long and unbelievably bumpy and the mattresses filled with rocky sand. Storms threatened to trap us on top of mountains. Nationwide strikes delayed our travels even in the remote villages. We lost (and miraculously recovered) a drone in the Himalayan mountains. Keeping batteries charged with intermittent electricity access was an ongoing battle. And an earthquake shook us to our core one night as we slept on the fifth floor of a questionable structure.
But despite scares and discomforts the memories were unforgettable and the life lessons have made us stronger and more compassionate. Watching people come together to rebuild and move on after the loss and heartbreak of the 2015 earthquakes was deeply inspiring. The people of Nepal have a beautiful way of making the absolute best of every situation. They have a strong sense of community that binds them together and keeps them moving forward. Please enjoy our little documentary about the rebuilding of schools in Nepal after the 2015 earthquakes.
