New Hillboro murals
Two new murals in Hillsboro’s Calle Diez neighborhood are part of a project to both celebrate the Latino community and train new mural artists. The first mural, by veteran artist William Hernandez, can be found on the side of Supermercado Mexico at 970 S.E. Oak St. The second, still underway by first-time muralist Abdiel Flores Ubaldo, is being painted on the shopping center across the street at 460 S.E. 10th Ave., under Hernandez’s guidance. l.hereisoregon.com/CzyJmX

The Last Blockbuster
The new Last Blockbuster show on Netflix dropped today....but it unfortunately doesn't have anything to do with Oregon.
Cassidy Quinn went to Bend this summer to give us a look at the actual Last Blockbuster.
---
When it was first announced that a new comedy built around the last Blockbuster Video store in America was coming to Netflix, it sounded promising, especially to Oregonians. After all, the real last Blockbuster is located in Bend, Oregon, and the plucky franchise’s story has been widely reported. The irony of a show about the last Blockbuster appearing on Netflix – the service that helped kill off video rental stores – well, that seemed rich in comic possibilities.
Unfortunately, the “Blockbuster” series on Netflix, which begins streaming today (Nov. 3), turns out to be a totally average, network-style workplace sitcom. It takes place not in Bend, but in some generic small town in Michigan.

Oregon State University is fundraising to reconstruct the skeleton of 70-foot blue whale that washed ashore on Oregon coast seven years ago. Once completed, it will be displayed at the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport.
“A blue whale that comes ashore as a whole is not all that rare,” said Lisa Ballance, director of Oregon State University’s Marine Mammal Institute. “But if it comes ashore close enough to a facility that has the capability of doing this kind of project, that is a rare thing. What is special about a blue whale is that blue whales are the largest of the whales, the largest animals to have ever lived on the planet. Larger even than the largest dinosaur. It is an awesome thing to behold.”

A perfect overnighter on the north side of Mount Hood
Hiking, camping and kayaking on the slopes of Oregon’s tallest mountain – what’s not to love? We spent a day tackling the incredible McNeil Point hike and a night at beautiful Lost Lake, two of the best attractions on the north side of Mount Hood.

With approximately 200 acres primarily planted with fescue grass that will be used for lawns, O’Loughlin Farms may seem like an unlikely partner for a bee and pollinator-friendly research project. However, Michael O’Loughlin is passionate about supporting biodiversity through habitat improvements, judicious use of pesticides, and research.
Thanks to NW Natural 's new Conservation Champion Award, the Oregon Bee Project will receive significant support for the work of O’Loughlin and his fellow volunteers.

Great Salt Lick Auction puts the 'culture' in agriculture
Salt blocks – those 50-pound cubes of salt offered to livestock and wildlife as a nutritional supplement – are the medium of choice at the annual Great Salt Lick Auction in Baker City. The art contest and fundraiser has ranchers collect the most artfully licked salt blocks, which are then sold for charity for hundreds of dollars.
Over the last 14 years, the salt cubes – featuring curves, grooves and holes from the tongues of cows, sheep and other animals – have raised more than $160,000 for the OHSU Parkinson’s Center of Oregon.
