2023 projects from Acadia!
Just a few days left in 2023, so unless someone wants to get cheeky and release a record we worked on this week, we thought we'd share some of the music that came out of Acadia this year. 2023 was quite a year for Maine music, and, as always, we are so happy and honored to get to work with the caliber of musicians who trust us with their projects. Thank you all, we love making music with you!
As we near the end of 2023, we wanted to take a beat to celebrate some of the fantastic projects we’ve helped record and mix over this past year. 2023 was a big year for Acadia: we purchased and installed a 32 channel SSL Origin console (see part 1 and part 2 in more detail here), we added some
For those of you who have been waiting with bated breath for part TWO of the SSL console install, happy reading :)
In a previous post we told the story of purchasing our new Solid State Logic ORIGIN 32 console. Now we’d like to share details of installing the console and the many additional major studio upgrades that came with it.
Great session today with and co.
We opened 2023 with Lean Meats Band first EP, and now their Sophomore EP, Crusades of the Web is out in the world! Catch them tomorrow (Friday Dec 22) for their release show at Blue. https://leanmeats.bandcamp.com/album/crusades-of-the-web

The SSL Origin has been happily housed at Acadia for several months, but here's some of the backstory of how we got it to the studio :)
Acadia engineer Jason Phelps recalls - “As a young musician and aspiring gear-head, I clearly remember seeing an ad for the then newly released SSL 4000G series console. It was an awe-inspiring thing of beauty, impossibly far out of reach. From that moment it was my dream to even just be in the ro...
Wrapping up a great weekend with
We've rolled out our new website with some more detailed information about some of the equipment we use to make you all sound great. Check out this post about our workhorse preamps here >>
Matching the right microphone with the right preamp is the key to getting that energy to translate to the finished product. If microphones are the paintbrushes then preamps are the colors - some are bold and impart a strong imprint on the sound, others are light and transparent. We have been lucky t

Well, this is our new mix room world, can’t wait to make even better sounds 😎
Hi guys! Love that indie musician-do-literally-everything-yourself life where you accidentally mix up when your EP is coming out and think it's a week later than you actually scheduled it... all this to say, I was pleasantly surprised to see "Where the Mountains Meet The Sea" in my Spotify at midnight and it's OUT! I am so proud of this EP and everyone who worked so hard to help me create it. Please check it out wherever you get your music and share it.
Release day always makes me feel so blue as I toss the songs out over the edge of the abyss... help me make it a good one by giving it a spin and telling me what you think!
Bill Barnes: electric guitar on Neowise and Monhegan
Robin Lane: cello on Renascence
Duane Edwards: bass on Renascence and Neowise
Dan Boyden: drums on Renascence and Neowise
Rhythm Tracks for Renascence and Neowise recorded by Todd Hutchinson at Acadia Recording in Portland, ME
Special thanks to Ilan Natter for aiding in the mixing (and teaching me to do it myself!)
Thank you to Joel Thome for telling me to stop being such a perfectionist and put the darn thing out!
Thank you to my parents, Barrett, and Yaya for always supporting, encouraging, and loving me as I worked through these and so many other songs.
Thank you to my Patreon Patrons for financing this project.
And thank you to my love and muse, Andrew.
Cover art by me :)

We are in the middle of a pretty massive overhaul of our mix room. Lots to do and share yet, but we couldn’t be more thrilled about our new effects and preamp racks. 🤩
Sounds better.

We made it to the The New England Shake-Up this past weekend for Sean Mencher's Rockin' Afternoon! Here's a clip of Sean Mencher playing with Bobby Trimble (of Big Sandy and his Fly-Rite Boys), Chris Casello (The Chris Casello Trio), Graham Tichy, and Jesse Woeful during his seminar on the 1976 RCA Victor record, Chester and Lester. We're looking forward to another session using the old Event Record's gear with Michael Hurtt's Haunted Hearts this week!
Caleb Mars Hickman is back at Acadia! Caleb rented the studio for the entire week (including a full day of tracking during the blizzard) and we've been working hard on his new album "The Magic Eye"
Well, it's almost the end of the year, but there is still time to fill yer ears with bad christmas music... Happy Holidays everyone!
Here's a little preview of some of the sounds coming out of this session... Get ready for a great record from Cushing
We spent a lot of time making crazy good sounds this weekend with Mome.
A testament to the enduring power of analog tape - this 1/2" 8-track reel is 34 years old!! Thank you to Nick for the use of the Teac 80-8...
In this weekend we have The Hadacol Bouncers. A New Orleans traditional Jazz Band fronted by Tom Whitehead and Peter Dunphy. We are tracking both to the Analog room straight 1/4" mono (no overdubs) and to our digital front end as well. Best of both worlds! Looking forward to tracking tomorrow as well.
We got a pretty fun shout out on The Mike O'Meara Show over the holidays-- we treated their vocals with melodyne pitch correction software, and...well... listen below for the result. Catch the whole episode here: http://mikeomearashow.com/2016/12/1671-xmas-letter-year/
If you've ever wanted to sit in on one of our 9-hour sessions to see just how weird things get, here's a look at what we were up to last week with Eyeball...recording an album full of thrashy goodness. Video footage from Ida Lapwing.
