New York Times best-selling author Kristin Ohlson is insatiably curious about the world. Her work explores science, food, art, travel—or anything else that captures her interest. In conjunction with her latest release, "The Soil Will Save Us: How Scientists, Farmers, and Foodies Are Healing the Soil to Save the Planet," Insite created a smart visual identity to complement Kristin’s talents.

Starting with Kristin’s author photo by Kristin Beadle, and featuring a blog and integrated social media, the new website helps the author build relationships and create a stronger connection with her readers. The responsive design promotes Kristin’s books and reviews, articles, news, and upcoming talks and book signings.

Responsive for mobile, the website showcases outstanding projects and allows visitors to view projects by type (e.g., bath, kitchen, natural light). Featured projects offer in-depth details and image galleries that bring the work to life. A news blog covers a variety of topics: inspiration, collaborations, materials and more.

Insite continues to work with OFA on the firm’s newsletter and social media strategy.

Arlington Public Library

Responsive design gives Arlington Public Library a big experience on the small screen

Arlington Public Library received a grant from the Texas State Library to update and optimize its website for use on mobile devices. The responsive design from Insite Web Publishing leverages the current desktop design to present a full website experience for targeted mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets.

While some organizations create separate, mobile-only versions of their website—with reduced content and limited functionality—our approach to responsive design is to enable the full website experience, including all content and functionality. Insite examined and identified the library’s popular page design layouts and content types, and then studied various mobile responsive breakpoints. Next, we created dynamic, responsive layouts to accommodate the content.

One significant challenge was deciding on how best to implement large-scale information architecture and navigation that was just as intuitive on a small screen. In the end, Arlington Public Library’s responsive design website is an accessible and pleasant mobile experience that reflects the library’s brand.

New website offers an immersive experience for NanaWall’s operable glass walls

Insite Web Publishing worked with Tolleson Design, a creative agency based in San Francisco, to create a stunning new website for NanaWall. The California company pioneered the category of operable glass wall systems, used in homes, restaurants, hotels, auto showrooms and more.

The website showcases NanaWall’s beautiful products with awe-inspiring photography, videos, 3-D renderings, schematic downloads and thorough product documentation—and it’s an essential tool for manufacturers’ reps to promote and sell products. The comprehensive website will appeal to everyone from homeowners and business owners to designers and builders who are looking for a unique architectural feature.

With photography this good, it was crucial to heavily integrate with third-party tools for page sharing and social media, including Pinterest, HOUZZ, Facebook, Twitter and Google+. The website also works seamlessly with design wizards that walk architects and contractors through the process of selecting and configuring the Nanawall product that’s right for their project.

Insite gives fresh update to online interior design magazine

Insite Web Publishing worked with Wisconsin ad agency Bader Rutter to redesign Impact Magazine, the online publication from OfficeMax Workplace Interiors. What began as a print magazine several years ago is now a relevant online resource for architects and interior design professionals.

The award-winning Impact includes regular features such as Workstation Life and topical, in-depth interviews with the design professionals who create productive and stimulating workspaces. Part of the clean, fresh look is a tag cloud covering a variety of popular topics, such as productivity, collaboration, corporate culture, flexible workspace, LEED and office design.

Created on the Drupal 7 platform, the new online magazine format makes it easy to manage and update editorial content, and Mr. Irving provided content management training to staff contributors.

The latest website enhancement builds on previous work that established online membership renewal. Along with event registration, the flexible e-commerce tool can generate reports and will also be able to process classified ad payments.

Emergency network helps Oregon utilities share resources during a disaster

In an emergency, time is critical. The Oregon Water/Wastewater Agency Response Network (ORWARN), part of a nationwide effort launched after Hurricane Katrina, lets utilities join together to post equipment and teams that can be mobilized during an emergency, without requiring an official disaster declaration. Insite revamped ORWARN’s website with multiple search tools to make it easier for member utilities to find what they need and speed access to aid. The website also integrates YouTube and Twitter to boost communication among members.

In addition to membership, in the future OVMA plans to use the system created by Insite to handle event registration and classified ad payments.

Simple solution offers big efficiency for Arlington Public Library

Life just got a lot easier for library staff in Arlington, Texas. Insite Web Publishing developed a custom Drupal module that lets staff at the Arlington Public Library efficiently process items requested by Arlington Independent School District and Mansfield Independent School District.

Library staff are thrilled about the new feature, which streamlines the formerly tedious process of checking items in and out by hand. For school libraries, it’s a better way to expand their offerings to students, who can access Arlington Public Library’s e-books and learning materials online and have items sent directly to their school.
