You’ll notice we’re rolling out new artist features at our Hawthorne and West End stores! For this season we’re so excited to welcome Olivia Serrill Olivia Serrill to our Hawthorne store.
Olivia Serrill is a native Oregonian whose oil paintings explore place, memory, and landscape through intuitive, textural brushwork. Since 2021, Olivia has used satellite imagery as visual reference to create paintings that exist somewhere between documentation and fantasy. Using color, shape, pattern, and mark-making in a wet-on-wet technique, Olivia aims to capture the character and feeling of a place rather than its exact appearance. Her work serves as an ode to both recognizable and obscure locations as seen from above, while allowing experience, imagination, and cultural associations to transform their literal appearance into something more personal and idealized.
