54 years ago tonight, following months of raids and harassment from the NYPD the patrons of The Stonewall Inn that night had enough. As Storme DeLarverie was spotted by Marsha P. Johnson being dragged out of the club by the police, that was enough for Marsha to throw a shot glass at the bar’s mirror sparking the uprising at the historic landmark. The Stonewall Uprising was the inspiration for the 1st Gay Pride March the following year in June, 1970, commemorating the event that burst the doors wide open for LGBTQIA+liberation. 54 years later the struggle for equality continues, and with states across bringing hundreds of proposals targeting the community keeps growing.🤬 As June 2023 comes to a close I hope individuals, and businesses that display pride during the month will remain allies after this Friday.
