With Haggett earning two playoff victories on the mound and hitting .667 with an .750 on-base percentage in this year's postseason, Biddeford claimed its first Class A championship since 1984, winning its final three games by one run.

It wasn’t an easy season. Addison DeRoche just made it look like one.

After a phenomenal freshman year, DeRoche was superb again as a sophomore, dominating SMAA hitters and improving as a batter while leading Cheverus to the Class A South final. She went 12-1 with a 0.43 ERA, striking out 177 batters in 81 innings and pitching two seven-inning no-hitters. She also hit .533, hammered seven home runs, drove in 30 runs and posted a 1.794 OPS.

For her performance, and for guiding Cheverus to an undefeated regular season and the Class A South final, DeRoche is the Varsity Maine Softball Player of the Year for the second straight season.

Junior midfielder Abby Trainor did a lot of things right this spring for state champion Windham, scoring 93 goals to go with 33 assists, 69 draw controls and 43 ground balls.

She scored the 200th goal of her career in early June, and a few weeks later netted a game-high five goals as the Eagles defeated Kennebunk 12-9 in the Class A final to earn their first state title.

Trainor’s output and big performances in big games are why she has been chosen as the 2025 Varsity Maine Girls Lacrosse Player of the Year.
