My name is Allison and I am the owner and founder of this Maine-based creative business. I am a furniture artist, first and foremost, but I do have frequent love affairs with vintage shops, interior design, power tools, and other crafty goodness. "Gooey Gump" came about as a childhood nickname given to me by my parents. It was a term of endearment when I faithfully went a little too far on a class

project (...just *one* more flourescent swirl, star, or googley eye on a science fair poster meant that I had "gooey gumped" it up). It was an afternoon activity growing up as an only child "Just go to your room and gooey gump something for a few hours until dinner is ready". And perhaps the most often as a replacement curse word when I inevitably splashed, spilled, or dumped, nail polish, puffy paints, or glitter onto my bedroom carpet. But in my defense, cream colored carpet for a messy kid?

We are officially in the FINAL DAYS of GooeyGump Designs, and it’s time to clear this place OUT. We’ve dug through the stock room to pull out absolutely everything and are ready for the big one.

Everything remaining in the store is 50% OFF- essentially WHOLESALE PRICING. Decor, gifts, seasonal, display pieces, random treasures… if it’s here and for sale, it’s half off.

A few important details:

• Venmo accepted
• We have no time to answer pricing questions ahead of time
• No credit/debit cards or checks
• No haggling- at 50% off, the price is the price and after it will be donated

I wonder which random little things from childhood they'll actually remember.

Being a working mom means I can't make every moment magical. But I CAN spend a random Thursday night helping my kids cause a tiny amount of hilarious chaos on the last day of rec camp.

I hope it's the weird little memories like this that stick.

Placing bets on if they can fully commit to the bit or if they will be cracking themselves up before they even open their lunchboxes. It's a toss up.

Find the .mayo minis, make the vanilla pudding and do this for back to school!

My youngest got this postcard yesterday wishing her a happy birthday and saying they can’t wait to have her back at summer camp next year.

SO cute. And impressive marketing: Personal, thoughtful, and timely!

Except…she never went to this camp.

We were parked on the waitlist because this Mama is never on top of life enough to be the winner of the registration day hunger games. (May the odds be ever in your favor.)

The most concerning part is that it took me A FULL BUSINESS DAY to confidently confirm that.

Like… did she go? Did I send her there? Who packed her lunch box? Was there a week of summer I’ve completely blacked out?

At this point you could tell me anything about my own life and I’d need 24 hours to verify it.

Another day, another gorgeous bakery case at a local Maine business.

I bring a lot of food to customers for my corporate job and I can’t tell you how much I cringe when they choose a chain over a local option. (Don’t get me started on grownups choosing freaking Panera…)

Shout out to Lils Cafe in Kittery for hustling through the line so fast and the best cinnamon bun I’ve had in forever.

Always hunting for the best food and treats in each town- drop your suggestions!

And before anyone comes for me, this is GOOD wallpaper. Expensive enough that I expected it to behave with some dignity.

And yet somehow it’s always the same:

Peel. Stick. Crooked. Peel. Re-stick. Bubble. Smooth. New bubble. Somehow there’s a wrinkle now. Accidentally stick it to itself. Sweat profusely. Say words your children shouldn’t hear. Consider whether the wall actually needed wallpaper in the first place.

Nothing consistently humbles me quite like a giant decorative sticker.

People have always said to me, “Oh man, I love your store. I bet your house is gorgeous!”

And in true cobbler-who-has-no-shoes fashion… absolutely not.

Our house has basically been the fixer upper we’ve been waiting to have the money, time and energy to fix. It’s one of the worst houses on a beautiful street and, aesthetically speaking, she has been through nothing because we have done nothing.

We bought it right before our second daughter was born. She turns 6 in a couple weeks, which tells you how that’s going.

The previous owners had lived here since it was built, and pretty much every extra dollar and ounce of creative energy I’ve had since we moved in went straight into GooeyGump.

So now that the store is closed, I’m trying to tackle one small house project every weekend. Partly to make some progress, but mostly to build momentum toward the projects I am absolutely FOAMING AT THE MOUTH to get to.

Looking at you, kitchen.

Yes, because I want it to be pretty. But also because several drawer fronts have literally rotted off and our knives and cutlery are just hanging out in the open like we’ve given up as a society.

Today’s project was my home office. I didn’t actually finish much of anything, but Sam humored me with one little goodnight shot of dopamine and helped me hang some of the gallery wall next to my desk.

And because he’s tall, the GooeyGump sign made it all the way to the top.

Like the star on a Christmas tree. (Which would clearly be artificial because peep that sad ass spider plant…)

I wasn’t sure when I’d be ready to see that sign again.

But it turns out, it doesn’t sting to look at anymore.

I’m starting to look at it and feel proud.

I built something from nothing. I took a weird little childhood nickname and a creative side hustle and chased it all the way into a real business. And even though that chapter is over, I’m really proud of everything I built in pursuit of that dream.

So I think the sign gets to stay at the top. ❤️

I need an intervention from someone who understands crafting.

I looked at a dried resin puddle and thought… “Wait. That’s gorgeous, what can I save it for?”

Please tell me I’m not the only one whose brain sees potential in literal scraps.
