One of the biggest obstacles people face when working to end their homelessness is finding a landlord who's willing to rent to them. The Joint Office of Homeless Service and its community partners are always trying to innovate new ways to bridge that gap and help more people than ever end their homelessness for good.
That's where Move-In Multnomah comes in.
Move-In Multnomah is a new program, developed by the Joint Office of Homeless Services, that offers additional incentives and dedicated support to landlords willing to make housing units available to people coming out of homelessness. It's an expansion, and an acceleration, of work already under way in this community, helping thousands of our neighbors into homes of their own every year.
Weâve loved being a part of this campaign and are so proud of the work this community is doing.
Getting the shot is easy in places like this!

Mixing work and play is kind of our thing⊠We had such a fun time in Vegas recently to shoot an event and even managed to squeeze in a few laps on the race track.
Atkore's Regional Distribution Centers are offering a brand new approach to delivery in the manufacturing industry, and last year, we were tasked with getting the word out through a series of videos highlighting the services and product lines they supply. We always love collaborating with this crew and had such a blast bringing this one to life.
TotemBridge is the story of a father and self-taught fly fisherman () who leaves the inner city to join an Indigenous-led voyage throughout salmon country to fight for the historic freeing of the Snake River. Back in 2020, the Oregon Bureau of Labor & Industries (BOLI) expanded their veteran services within their apprenticeship training division, and they came to us to tell this story.
Most veterans are unaware these services even exist, but what itâs ultimately offering is a pathway to a careerâŠa helping hand where itâs so desperately needed. Theyâre uniquely positioned to provide this support through the talents of their team, some of whom are veterans themselves (Lisa Ransom and Aaron Unpingco), which creates an opportunity for connection and understanding on a level far-and-above the typical human-to-business transaction. BOLIâs focus is human-to-human, providing grounded, connective conversations and letting you know they care and theyâre here to help you transition into a career you truly care about, even providing insight into how apprenticeships arenât all too dissimilar from your time in the service! There really is no better fit.
Last year, iQ Credit Union came to us wanting to create a new employee hire video that authentically reflected the iQ Crew spirit. Think the Pacific Northwest, sasquatch, and a whole lot of buffalo plaid! We had an absolute blast with this collaboration and couldnât be happier with how it came together.
In February of 2020, Atkoreâs Pendleton, Oregon PVC pipe manufacturing plant was hit by a once-in-a-lifetime flood, prompting evacuations, highway closures and emergency declarations. Unable to avoid the floodwaters, the Pendleton plant lost everything. A year later, theyâre back in production. Wanting to tell this story, they sought our help in creating a 3-5 minute piece talking about what unfolded here all while promoting the reopening and the products they offer.
Always love collaborating with Reed College! Such a fun shoot this morning with some of the nicest people youâll ever meet.
Weâre so proud to announce that our short film, The Black Stonefly, has most recently been accepted into the Telluride Film Festival! This project would not have been possible without the collaboration of Freebuilt Films and Hard Row Productions.
Gian Lawrence () is a fly fisherman and outdoorsman with a unique origin story. Growing up in Puyallup and Tacomaâs Hilltop, he fell into a life of crime, violence and destitution until a near-death experience opened his eyes and his soul to the outdoors and a sport largely inaccessible for young black men like himself, fly fishing.
With all the challenges this pandemic has caused, the has seen an increase in demand, and thankfully the local community has stepped up to help meet those demands. From a local woman baking giant cinnamon rolls and donating the profits, to Pacific Seafood and the Retherford family of Newport donating 30,000lbs of rockfish, help has come from all over the state to help provide food to those in need.
Positive news is in short supply these days, so it was incredible to hear about the recent outpouring of support for Meals On Wheels People. The organization addresses senior isolation and hunger, which is of even greater importance than usual due to covid-19. As Suzanne said, itâs amazing to see how much the Portland community cares about our older folks.
We all remember our final months of high school and how many special events took place during that time. For 2020 seniors, those moments and memories have been taken away due to covid-19.
If you know a high school or college senior, encourage them to reflect on their accomplishments and hard work of the past four years. Try to make this time special for them, and remind them of how proud theyâve made you. Reassure them that there will be so many special moments to come in the future.
Who is giving you strength during this time? Maybe itâs your mom, or your dad, your grandma, your partner, your children. Whoever it is, use this time to take the strength they give you and lift up others. Everyone could use some encouragement right now, even if itâs a simple phone call to check in and say, âIâm here for you. You got this.â
Undoubtedly, our healthcare workers are the heroes of this pandemic, and they are simultaneously facing some of the greatest challenges. Thank every healthcare worker you know right now, and as Jen said, please continue to save lives by staying at home.
WE GOT THIS PDX
Brittanyâs message to Portland is exactly what we needed to see during this time. And sheâs not the only one weâve seen letting people know theyâre not alone in this. The amount of artwork and sidewalk chalk we see on our daily walks in each of our neighborhoods has been inspiring and gives us a sense of hope. Keeping up creativity can be challenging in times of hardship, but each new message of positivity we see encourages us to create something that will remind others to keep their head up. We got this, PDX!
Collaboration with - thanks bud.
Mindset is everything during this time.
It feels like we donât have a lot of choices right nowâŠbut what if you reframe your mindset and embrace this tough situation as a growing opportunity to learn something new about yourself? Maybe we can show up for others in a way we never have and find a new strength within ourselves.
2020 started out looking like the year of growth. We were excited for the projects and opportunities opening themselves up for the year aheadâŠthen COVID-19 hit us. And everyone. And it hit us really hard. Within days of the national emergency declaration, projects were canceled and shelved and postponed indefinitely. Like a lot of other small businesses, we are not sure what the future holds. This is a scary and unprecedented time, and each one of us is feeling it in different ways, both personally and professionally. Our day to day lives have morphed into something unrecognizable, and we are all adjusting in ways we never imagined.
In this time of uncertainty, we as a company, and as individuals, have been trying to find a way to give back a piece of what we have all been missing - a small bit of human connection, of living in each othersâ shoes, of understanding. And our strength is storytelling - so we are here to tell each othersâ stories. We hope that this small project brings back some of the community, that personal connection, that Portland has given us over the last decade. We hope you enjoy and feel a bit of that community too. We will be sharing more stories from our Portland neighbors over the coming weeks.

A short form biopic of a female athlete, Madeline.
The idea to create this piece came to fruition over a few phone calls and coffee all thanks to a mutual friend. We had the opportunity to work with Madeline for two days in Palm Desert, California while she was taking a short break between performance gigs. During this intense and intimate period we sketched out what we wanted to create, the story we wanted to share and the feelings we wanted to evoke. We then got to work. In this process, her free spirit and dedication shone through, and brought us this short piece.
Thanks to all our friends, collaborators and the Lightbox team.
