Freeform, or freeform radio, is a radio station programming format in which the DJ is given total control over what music to play, regardless of music genre or commercial interests. Freeform radio stands in contrast to most commercial radio stations, where DJs have little or no influence over programming structure or playlists. In the United States, freeform DJs are still bound by Federal Communic
ations Commission regulations. Freeform Portland (KFFP) has a permit from the FCC to utilize a non-commercial low-power FM (LPFM) radio channel in Portland. KFFP is being created by a group of volunteers who are waaaaaay-into freeform stations like WFMU, KXLU, KALX, & KFJC, and have tons of prior college and community radio experience. Our volunteers work directly with All Classical, KBOO, KMHD, XRAY.fm, House of Sound, Portland Radio Project, Wild Planet Radio and Vancouver Radio Project. We love radio. We love Portland. We're all working on the same team against the crappy corporate radio monopoly. Won't you join us?
