The life of a DJ

The life of a DJ is fun, exciting, lucrative, stressful, rewarding, and life changing all at the same time.

I say that because in your quest to become a DJ you will spend many hours alone mastering your craft. To be great sacrifice is necessary. That means a lot of time in your room practicing, looking at YouTube videos seeing how DJ’s better than you blend ,scratch, organize music, what to play and when to play it , DJ etiquette so forth and so on. Some friends or significant others won’t understand your quest for greatness. Some will feel neglected although you do have to find some type of balance. But through it all DJing takes you away from family and friends on the weekends. You will miss a lot of parties and family engagements because you’re out performing doing what you love making people party to your music. Having a spouse as a DJ is not easy. Temptation is everywhere your spouse might not like members of the opposite or same s*x coming up to you asking you for request or enjoying your company but hey that’s part of the job. One has to be a people person. You have to network to get ahead in this business, your spouses insecurities has to be curved by trust. We are focused on people having a good time not on who like us like many people may think. It’s fun to be a DJ you literally bring people together through music. Your are a music ambassador. People will meet their spouse in a club or venue listening to your music. You have the power to uplift somebody’s day in ways you couldn’t have imagined. Music is powerful so be carful what you play ands how you play it. It can be extremely expensive trust me I’ve spent thousand on music and equipment. It can be very lucrative if you master your craft and network the money will come. You can’t cheat the game you get out of it what you put in. DJing will take you places you would have never dreamed of. It can be stressful at times because you put massive amounts of pressure on yourself to do good. You will be your biggest critic. DJing is life changing you will never listen to music the same ever again. It will be hard to listen to a song all the way through because you so use to mixing and getting to the best part of the song. Every song you listen to suddenly makes you wonder when can you play it and where. Does it fit happy hour, prime time , or the climax of the event. Going to see other DJ’s is not easy. You hear things others wouldn’t notice like transitions, scratch patterns , timing and subconsciously judge your peers based off what you hear. It could make having a good time going out a bit difficult, because if the other DJ is bad it will bother you because you know what a blend, a scratch or dropping it one the one is supposed to sound like. But if he’s good you’re delighted and will not only learn from him or her but also have the best time of your life. You will meet people from all walks of life that will become extended family some will be closer to you than most of your own family. They become your tribe sort or speak and music is yall language. You will discover that you are eclectic when it comes to music one gene of music just doesn’t cut it anymore. You will find yourself listening to stuff your friends will be looking at you like really Sam hunt, really Kane brown, really house music, really RnB, really trap music , really top 40 music. People won’t see the late nights preparing for gigs downloading music organizing crates , listening to new music just to prepare for your next gig. The most rewarding thing about Djing is somebody telling you how much they enjoyed your music, how good you are and how you made them feel from your music. Djing is a thankless job but i wouldn’t have it any other way. Why because I love what I do
