A new Pennsylvania law requires school districts to notify parents and employees each time there is an incident involving a weapon on school grounds, a change that Schuylkill County school officials mostly support.

Districts have 24 hours from the time of the incident to send that notice using a method of communication that is likely to reach recipients, according to Act 44, which took effect Jan. 6.

A former Tilden Township supervisor faces criminal charges after township police said he threatened to commit violent crimes against his ex-wife and other family members in dozens of texts and phone messages.

Roy W. Borkey, 65, now a resident of Tamaqua, Schuylkill County, was charged this week with four counts each of making terroristic threats and harassment. He wasn’t in custody as of Friday.

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Penn State Schuylkill’s popular community enrichment cinema course will return this spring, offering participants the chance to explore the evolving role of comedy in film.

Titled “Media, Manipulation, and the Demise of Public Discourse,” the course will examine how humor has changed over time, including the decline of the romantic comedy. Each of the four sessions will feature a pre-screening lecture, a film showing and a guided discussion analyzing the events depicted, the directors’ choices, and the cinematic techniques used.
